Re: Monday GTKY - summer fun edition!

  • What are your average summer temps? 80s, but much cooler in the evenings, we don't have humidity w/o precipitation.

Do you do summer vacations? If so, is it a traditional spot, or a new place every time? Has your LO changed your style of/ability to vacation? We will travel if we are invited somewhere, but really we have learned that no where is nicer than Portland in the summer. :)

Do you consider yourself a beach person? Not in the traditional sense. :) My dad surfed the Oregon Coast, so I grew up spending weekends at the beach, but we were usually fully clothed and often in a windbreaker. I am definitely not a sit on the beach and sunbathe sort of person.

Do you know how to swim? Yes

What kind of bathing suit will you be sporting this summer? Maternity! I gave up the two piece swim suit about 10 yrs ago. The more coverage from the sun the better.

    Married 9-4-04

  • What are your average summer temps?

    100-115

Do you do summer vacations? If so, is it a traditional spot, or a new place every time? Has your LO changed your style of/ability to vacation?

We don't do summer vacations right now. For awhile we did a week at the lake with DHs family, but the kids/cousins are all older and not interested. I work a ton in the summer, so we do fall/spring vacations.

Do you consider yourself a beach person?

    Yes! Absolutely!

Do you know how to swim?

    Yes, quite well.

What kind of bathing suit will you be sporting this summer?

I'm a bit obsessive about sun since it is so sunny here and I work outside. I'm usually wearing a long sleeve swim shirt and swim tights over my suit (so usually just a speedo).

  • What are your average summer temps?

Eh.  I'd say mid-80's.  But we live in crappy Wisconsin so "summer" doesn't always mean much.  It can be 60 one day and 90 the next.

Do you do summer vacations? If so, is it a traditional spot, or a new place every time? Has your LO changed your style of/ability to vacation?

After my family sold their lake home we started renting a couple of cabins all in a row on the same lake every year for a month.  DH and I have never gone up for that long, but would usually go for a week.  Now that we have the kids we have gone for two to three nights, although this summer we may only go for one night since our daughter does NOT do well sleeping anywhere other than her own bed.

DH and I always did a big summer vacation every year before we had kids as well, but not anymore.  Oh well :)

Do you consider yourself a beach person?

    Um.  YES.

Do you know how to swim?

Lifeguarded through high school and college :)

What kind of bathing suit will you be sporting this summer?

Well I was all prepared to rock my two pieces again but if I stay pregnant I'll probably sport my maternity suit.  Or maybe I'll just let it all hang out in my two piece ... I've thought about it.  I love showing off my pregnant belly ;)

  • What are your average summer temps?
    90's - 100's and 100% humidity, yuck

Do you do summer vacations? If so, is it a traditional spot, or a new place every time? Has your LO changed your style of/ability to vacation?
MH and I used to go to Mexico twice a year.  IF treatments has definitely ended that.  I want to take E and go to Mexico this summer, but MH doesn't think it's a good idea.

Do you consider yourself a beach person?
I love to relax on the beach and read a book.  I am terrified of water and will not actually get in.

Do you know how to swim?
    I do.

What kind of bathing suit will you be sporting this summer?
Oh jeez, I hadn't even thought about that.  I was so caught up in how cute E's bathing suit is, I forgot about me.

  • What are your average summer temps? In Massachusetts - probably in the 80's

Do you do summer vacations? If so, is it a traditional spot, or a new place every time? Has your LO changed your style of/ability to vacation?  Yes - we do a week in New Hampshire with my family and a week on Cape Cod with DH's family.  Both are traditional - my family used to go to NH every summer growing up and DH's used to go to the Cape.  Before LOs, we still did these vacations, but others as well - we loved flying to tropical destinations and having drinks on the beach, in the pool bar, etc.  We haven't done that since we have had children!

Do you consider yourself a beach person? Not really - I prefer going to the beach at a resort where they have umbrellas and chairs all set up and will bring me drinks.  I burn easily, so I need the shade.  Going to the beach feels like such a chore, and I worry that I will get burned the whole time I am there.  And now I worry that the kids will burn too!

Do you know how to swim?  Yes

What kind of bathing suit will you be sporting this summer? Probably a tankini with a long sleeved rash guard/swim shirt.  As I said, I am terrified of burning and skin cancer!  The long sleeved swim shirt makes me feel safer Smile

What are your average summer temps?

    100s

Do you do summer vacations? If so, is it a traditional spot, or a new place every time? Has your LO changed your style of/ability to vacation?

We don't do traditional days long vacations, DH is an A/C tech so it's his busy time. We usually make it to the coast a few times though. We won't change anything about where we go with DS. We are firm believers in your life doesn't have to stop just because you have a baby so he will go with us like we normally would travel.

Do you consider yourself a beach person?

Definitely. We haven't been in so long though, I need some beach time!

Do you know how to swim?

    Well enough

What kind of bathing suit will you be sporting this summer?

I usually don't do bathing suits when at the beach but in a pool I do long tops and skirt bottoms. Tanks and shorts are good enough for me at the beach since we mainly fish the entire time.

  • What are your average summer temps? 100+ Do you do summer vacations? If so, is it a traditional spot, or a new place every time? Has your LO changed your style of/ability to vacation? Yes, we are big on vacation even if they are shorter trips. We go to the river/lake several times a summer. This summer we'll be taking a 10 day houseboat trip. It will be a blast but a lot of work with a toddler! Do you consider yourself a beach person? I really don't like the wind or the salt water but the beach is so fun and Gavin loves it so I kind of love it now too. In the summer my mom, sisters, and I (along with G and my niece) go to the beach every Thursday. Do you know how to swim? Yes. I'm not a great swimmer though! What kind of bathing suit will you be sporting this summer? Two piece!

What are your average summer temps?

    80-90

Do you do summer vacations? If so, is it a traditional spot, or a new place every time? Has your LO changed your style of/ability to vacation?

We usually go away to someplace warm in the winter, so not usually do we vacation in the summer. We may join family in Lake George for a weekend this summer. We love adults only, all-inclusive type vacations, so that will have to change!

Do you consider yourself a beach person?

I don't like 'going to' the beach but if I'm at a resort with nice beach chairs and umbrellas and someone to bring me drinks, I love the beach!!

Do you know how to swim?

    yup.

What kind of bathing suit will you be sporting this summer?

Tankini for me this year. I got some stretch marks on my lower belly the last two weeks of my pregnancy and linea nigra showed up after she was born :-(

  • What are your average summer temps?
    80's

    Do you do summer vacations?
Yep! Vacations are must. We typically go around Memorial Day for our wedding anniversary.

If so, is it a traditional spot, or a new place every time?
We try to go to a new spot each time but its almost sure to be a beach destination. My DH loves Hawaii so that's usually our backup spot.

Has your LO changed your style of/ability to vacation?
Not too much. We are pretty go with the flow parents.

Do you consider yourself a beach person?
    Most definitely yes!

Do you know how to swim?
Yes. I grew up with a pool in my backyard so learning to swim was a priority. DH and I met on our high school swim team.

What kind of bathing suit will you be sporting this summer?
Last year I bought a one piece after feeling self conscious about my stretch marks. This year I'm braving a bikini after feeling like a mom frump! And I'm actually excited about this new swimsuit I found at VS.

Do you do summer vacations? If so, is it a traditional spot, or a new place every time? Has your LO changed your style of/ability to vacation?

We usually take a summer vacation, but not necessarily to the same place every year.  We also usually take a couple of smaller "weekend" trips to more local places...and, yes, LO has definately changed our ability to vacation.

Do you consider yourself a beach person?

Yes, but I like lakes better beause of no salty/sticky feel.  Unless the water is beautiful and clear, beaches are really NBD to us because we both grew up on the coast.

Do you know how to swim?

    Yes.

What kind of bathing suit will you be sporting this summer?

A bikini in my pool because no one sees me but dh.  I may end up with a one piece if we go somewhere.
