I'm 5weeks with my first baby and my Doctor just proscribe Progesterone. I'm freaking out a bit because I keep finding articles saying that low progesterone is a sign of a none viable pregnancy. Does anyone know if that's true?
If you have low progesterone and the doctor prescribed you the medicine, that is going to help increase your levels to keep your pregnancy viable until the placenta fully develops. We believe that low progesterone was the cause of my two losses last year. So this time we are taking bloodwork to determine my levels and possibly get on progesterone supplements like you in an effort to keep this one.
I have been on them every cycle for almost 2 years because my LP is too short and my lining was degrading before implantation could occur. I will be on them until my 10 week appointment. Your body just isn't producing enough on its own so the supplements are making up the difference. Except for being a little uncomfortable, they aren't bad!
TTC since 3/2011 Adenomyosis, LPD, hypothyroidism.
BFP on 7/20/12 after 4 cycles Clomid + IUI
2 large subchorionic hematomas & no heartbeat at 7w6d
D&E 8/18/12 Sonohysterography found septum and necrotic tissue.
I am on them with pregnancy #2 and was on them with pregnancy #1. I have continued to have my level checked once a week to make sure my progesterone levels have stayed in the normal range. So far so good. I put it in before I fall asleep and I have had no side effects at all from it.
Low progesterone doesn't mean that the pregnancy isn't viable. However if you don't make enough progesterone on your own, you may have problems with m/c. Supplements won't hurt you or baby. Plus it can help you avoid an early m/c. Don't stress too much! There are plenty of other things to worry about with a baby on the way! =P
