So just got the call I did not pass my 1 hr and have to do my 3 hour test. Not only that the nurse was kind enough to tell me that my numbers were ridiculously high and with me measuring ahead and all they are basically looking to confirm that I will need an action plan for my soon to be diagnosed GD.
Darn, and I was having a great Monday too.
So, just out of curosity what happens when you get diagnosed with GD? I read on another post they limit your carbs, but being that it's about the only thing I eat (other than fruit- which also has tons of sugar) and limited vegetables. What am I supposed to eat? It's crazy! Anything spicy or greasy also gives me such bad heartburn/acid reflux, I have to take a glass of milk to kind of help it settle it down.
Now it's not my fault I can't drink a glass of milk without a few oreos is it? lol.
I am really praying I pass this thing tomorrow, but this nurse has no faith in me...
They said to fast after midnight, I think I'm going to throw a just in case pity party and have nothing but oreos and milk and heck why not- cheetos since they seem to be so popular around here.
Anyone one want to join?
Re: My turn to rant on the GD bandwagon
Sorry you are going through this. I have my 1 hour test next week and even my doctor is PRAYING I pass because the twins have already destroyed my gallbladder and limited my diet so drastically that if I have GD on top of it it will be a nightmare.
Yes, they will limit your carbs but assuming it is not insulin dependant, its not completely horrible. You can have complex carbs... you just have to limit the white flour and sugar. Most docs can hook you up with a nutritionist that can help you find a list of what to eat through this last tri.
Good luck!
If I fail I will ask for a referral to a GD nutritionist. Can you ask about that? That way they can work healthy options of what you can tolerate into your meal plans. Also I believe you limit your carbs and as long as your sugars are good you can include some controlled carb portions.
So you might have some options you haven't explored yet. Try not to get too discouraged.

When I was diagnosed, I was referred to a Endocrinologist, a nutritionist and a diabetes educator. They go over what GD is and how to manage it. You are given carb goals and a basic overview of how that translates into food choices.
I still have potatos, rice, fruit, sweets, etc. The key is portion and balance. I can have one serving of chips at a meal if that's how I choose to get my carbs. But the chips are weighed and portioned. My hand never goes in the bag to just munch how I please. If I want something sweet for my evening snack, I can choose to have 2 thin mints. I eat sandwiches, but my choice is to use wheat bread instead of white so I can also have applesauce. It's about knowing what you're eating and making responsible choices.
Also, carbs are MONITORED, not eliminated. It is still very important to eat them, just within the specific ranges that are given to you.
To be entirely honest with you, I sincerely suggest not bingeing today. If you DO have GD, it's not a healthy choice to make right now. If you DON'T, you don't want to trip up any tests they may give you tomorrow. Glucose spikes can linger. Eat as normal, and proceed from there. Best of luck to you!

Thank you for the support ladies, I will refrain from binging (not really in my nautre actuall), but it's just so discouraging to know that what little I am eating is not doing it's job correctly in my system.
Thanks for the suggestion on looking into a nutritionist, that might definitely help with some ways to deal with postive GD diagnosis.
I will let you ladies know how it goes. Hopefully, all goes great, but I have some good ideas from you ladies, in case it doesn't.
Thanks and Good luck Prim on your 1 hr! Hope you pass! Just so you can avoid going through the 3 hour test.....Breakfast is my biggest meal, so to have to pass it up is a big deal for me...
