Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How much should she be eating?

My LO will be five months old Friday.  She is eating a pureed fruit for lunch and a pureed vegetable for dinner.  She normally eats about thirty ounces of formula a day, but has decreased to around twenty-four in the past week.  I know she is also starting to teeth.  What is the healthy amount of formula ?

  • That's pretty much exactly what my son is eating as well.  On days he eats fruits or veggies twice, he eats about 24 oz. formula; if he only has one "meal" of food, he will eat 32 oz.  As long as she is gaining weight steadily and seems happy, I would assume you're doing the right thing!

  • This is about the same as my DS, who will be 5 months May 3rd.  He started eating solids at almost 4 months, but usually only gets them at "dinner" time as I have not sent any to Day Care yet.  He will usually eat anywhere between 27 and 39oz of BM depending on his mood and if he ate solids, napped a lot, or if he woke up in the middle of the night for a snack.  For example, last night he ate 2.5oz of sweet potatoes and 2.5oz of pears but only took 27oz of BM while sleeping from 8pm-520am.  Saturday, no solids, took 38.5oz of BM and woke up about 4 times, 2 to cry out and two for mommy to come upstairs, he ate at one of these times too, which I count on the next day.
