sleep? yay my kid hates it!

Anyone else LOs refusing to sleep? After DS turned 1 he turned into the biggest sleep monster. He would fight for 30 minutes or more to get put to sleep, that turned into us not even being able to lay him down so he can fall asleep on his own like he used to.  We had to literally rock him until he was sound asleep and he will still fuse when we put him down.  He would wake up middle of the night screaming at top of his lung, sometimes he wanted milk, other times he just have tantrum. At first pedi said it's phase a lot of kids go through this and it should pass; or and for a couple weeks he was teething. But he's going to be 14 months soon...how long is a "phase" supposed to last? He is still waking up once or twice..sometimes wanting milk, other times just freaking out.  I am to tired to fight with him to go back in the crib, so half the night he is our bed.

I don't even know what to do...maybe I need to sleep train? We have never done it before because we never needed to.  He was a pretty good sleeper before 11months.

My guy is up and down like a yoyo and the teething isn't helping... he is not taking all of his naps but he is spending the first part of his night in his own bed instead of ours now and he goes down in his crib  pretty easily most nights.... not all.

So on the one hand it's worse, but on the other it's better ....so we're just taking his cues. We try and get him to stick to his flexi schedule, but won't force it if he is obviously not ready to nap.  I would say overall it's getting better but not perfect, he still wakes up wanting a drink at least once a night.

Hope things get better for you and just remember not everyone elses schedules work for you, so don't expect him to be the same as the super sleeeper kid someone else might have.  We had to find something that worked for us, because we're not the Atypical situation.

Now he is walking I see a def difference because he is burning off more energy and fresh air does wonders .. but it's gonna get super hot again soon and that will make outdoor play harder here specially since the mosquitos are carrying West Nile already again this year. Sad

  • Sleep training worked for us. We did it at 5 mo and couldn't be happier! We used the SleepEasy Solution.

Does he sleep with a lovey or stuffed animal? DD used to fuss a ton, but the neighbor girl gave her a little stuffed Tigger and we haven't had any crying since!
  • This sounds just like our lo.  She always wakes up in the middle of the night and I am just too tired to fight so she ends up in our bed 1/2 the night as well.  I hope we both get some sleep soon.

  • My boy has always fought sleep so our situation is a bit different.. I've heard they go through a major separation anxiety phase around 12-13 mo, so that might be why he's freaking out at night. We are sleep training right now, basically using the Sleep Lady Shuffle. Unfortunately for us it does involve a fair bit of crying but we are there in the room to reassure him so he doesn't feel abandoned. Maybe that would work for you too. GL!
