Best swim vest or other safety device for pool?

I'm looking for a swim vest or other device that I can make sure DS wears while around the pool this summer. DS is only 22 lbs. (and 22 months) so the puddle jumper is too big. I'm not as concerned when an adult is with him IN the pool, but more with being around the pool- he doesn't know his limitations yet and would probably just walk right in.  Being near the end of my pregnancy, I'm not as fast as him!

What do you suggest that is easy enough to take on and off (by this I mean not an entire shirt with floatations) and will keep him safe in case he does take a plunge?

  • What about something like a boating vest? They just snap on and off.

  • I would maybe go the athletic style life jacket - start teaching that when by the water, children wear a life jacket.  My kids have to wear one  when we are on the pier or on the boats at the lake and because we started as infants, they never complain even though the older kids don't wear one anymore.

  • DS will have a life jacket on. He's super outgoing and has no fear. My parents have a pool and I know he's going to be very adventurous. We'll also have a few beach trips this summer, so he needs to have something strapped ON to him that he can't get off. I can't see him being content in one of those baby/toddler floats- he's going to want to be free in the water to move. Life jacket is the way to go for him.

  • Hello. I have. 12 month old little girl and we have had her in swim lessons for the past 2 months, being safe around water has always been important to us and I recommend lessons for any child. Anyways, in her lessons they used a very sturdy noodle thing that the would fold in half and attach a ring around the ends to keep it together. You then place the child in the middle and it rests under their armpits so the can float and still allows for them to lean forward and kick to practice swimming. The noodle costs about 20 and the ring was 7 at aqua tots. Hope this helps!
