Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Excited to try foods

My DD just turned 4m this past week and I'm planning on waiting until she's 6m before introducing any solids... however... I'm having a very difficult time waiting!  lol  I just can't wait to see her face as she tries new foods.  Anyone else planning on waiting but getting eager to start early?

Re: Excited to try foods

  • I haven't been tempted to start early but I AM looking forward to the faces he'll make and finding out his likes and dislikes.

I have gotten to see some surprised faces already though. When my mom gave him water once when he was 6-7 weeks old and when I first gave him a frozen teether. Such funny faces!!

  • I started today.  I know they recommend 6 months but I started today anyway on veggies.  She loved the green beans! I was started as a baby at 1 1/2 months and I turned out OK haha! My mom also put whiskey on my gums when teething..will NOT be doing that! It was fun today though...she made a yucky face at first but then gobbled it up.  She still took her usual amount in bottles though all day.

I am also excited to make his food too ... I'm a dork about this whole thing!). He has started becoming so much more expressive lately so I can't wait to see his face when he tries different flavors for the first time!

Yes!  I already have my ice cube trays ready for my purees and stocked up on freezer bags... bought prunes, raisins (had great luck with mixing those into veggies when the boy I used to nanny for refused them), and a bunch of organic babyfoods.

When I was a nanny, I had so much fun making the food, mixing flavors, and introducing him to new foods.
  • I waited til 5.5 months with DD (she was ready). It was fun.

With DS, we actually started with a little rice tonight. He is a very large baby with a strong appetite, so we feel he could use the extra filling rice will give him. I will probably hold off on veggies for another couple months though.

DS did not tongue out the rice...he seemed surprised but swallowed it.

  • We started DD at 4 mos on solids and she was definitely ready. DS is a big baby (and a big eater!), so we will start at 4 mos if he is showing signs of being ready also. The ideal time period for introducing foods to avoid food allergies is 4-6 mos, so that is a benefit for starting early.

  • We started my DD a little after she turned 4 months old. She has oatmeal with breast milk, and we recently started her on veggies/fruits. We make our own baby food as well. It's so much fresher and you get more for your money! I love watching her funny face when she tries new things. She showed signs of being ready to start solids.
