Natural Birth

Where to buy natural baby products?!

Starting to get on board with using more natural products.  Where can I buy natural baby products?  Things like baby shampoo, lotion, sunscreen, etc???  I would love to find stuff at a store instead of ordering.  I checked our local walmart and they have adult natural items, but no baby stuff.

 TIA!  Happy Friday!

Re: Where to buy natural baby products?!

  • Target has a decent selection. Are there any natural food stores in your area? They would probably have some.

Amazon.com really is good, they have free shipping on some items. We use a lot of Burt's Bees and California Baby products.

  • I use earth mama angel baby products.  I buy them from Amazon.
  • Honestly, babies really don't need a whole lot of products -- and you don't necessarily need to buy baby-specific products either; I think it's mostly just a marketing ploy.

I use goat milk based products that are locally made and sold at my farmer's market, have you looked around at any near you?  Or also arts & crafts fairs might have some good vendors. In the absence of premade products, you could just use raw shea butter or organic coconut oil, two great alternatives to chemical-laden lotions.

For store bought products (esp sunscreens), you may want to check out the Environmental Working Group's website since they have a very comprehensive product rating system.  Interestingly enough, some of the well known "natural" brands or natural varieties of a conventional product often contain plenty of toxins, so do your research & read the ingredients!

  • Target has a good selection.  We're going to be using Burt's Bees.  I can already see the hospital staff rolling their eyes when I pull it out for baby's first bath.  :)

  • Thanks ladies!!!  I see lots of Burt's Bee and Babyganics sold at Babies R Us.  Haven't looked at Target yet, but I will.  Thanks!  :)

Totally second the EWG product ratings - they're really informative and cut through a lot of the hype around certain brands (they also do makeup!). Just one thing to bear in mind - you may have to try a lot of different things to find one that works, and it might not always be the most 'natural.' It turns out I break out in a rash from pretty much every sunscreen except Coppertone Water Babies - so that's one area where I break my general trend of buying natural stuff.

  • Just be aware Babyganics is not actually organic, many of their ingredients are "nontoxic" but not all natural and they aren't as safe as some other products out there... The name is a deceiving marketing ploy. Health food stores are the best places to get all natural and organic products
  • Thanks ladies! :)
