Hi all,I am a coffee lover, but have decided to give it up for at least the first trimester. I was wondering if any of you may have found a pregnancy-friendly satisfying tea to help replace coffee in the a.m. Thanks!
If your goal is to not have the caffine from the coffee, then just do a decaf coffee. Still has the same morning roast smell I love, ALSO, ps... will help major when constipation strikes.
Replacements? Replacements for coffee? Does. Not. Compute.
Why? You can drink coffee! This baffles me. Usually people that are concerned about coffee are concerned about the caffeine. So, if you are replacing the coffee with tea (for example) you are still drinking caffeine. In some cases, a black tea can have more caffeine* than a double espresso or even a brewed coffee (brewed with more water than average). So, I mean there are ways to drink your coffee (half-caff or decaf) that will reduce the caffeine if you are worried about it. My OB lets me have 200-300 mg daily.
Poor coffee and deli meat get the worst rap. You can have both!
Edit: coffee turned to caffeine lol. I love coffee, yo!

All this. I cut back from an extreme amount of coffee to 1 cup when I got preg w/ DD. This time I am just cutting the occasional seconds or afternoon coffee perk. I have bought some decaf tea to help tide me over (Twining's English Breakfast in Decaf with a little milk and sugar - YUM)

There have been reputable studies that have found coffee consumption correlates with increased risk of miscarriage. (They have not determined if is a causative link, or if they co-exist due to other factors.) It may be related to both caffeine and coffee (not just caffeine).

We had a hard time TTC, so i avoided coffee entirely in first tri (see comment above). I actually didn't drink much besides water and a little bit of juice b/c it bothered me for most of first tri, but early on i had rooibos chai tea, which is considered totally safe during pregnancy, and is super yummy, IMO. I only had caffeinated tea a couple times and opted for mint-green tea.

What if you still drank coffee but made it weaker? DH likes his coffee super-strong so that's what I'm used to drinking, but now I make myself a separate smaller pot of weaker coffee. I'm not going to give it up entirely (holy headaches) so this was a good compromise for me. HTH!
I've traded my usual double espresso in the morning for a single. And I've traded my usual single in the afternoon for a big glass of coconut water! I find it super refreshing and it seems to give me a great boost.
Thank you all for your input! I am a first time mama and just want to play it extra safe this first tri. I probably will have a cup here and there once I get into my second tri. Thanks again
I just cut back my coffee consumption to 1 cup (and one actual cup, not my usual giant mugs) per day. Occasionally (maybe 1x per week) I'll have a second cup, but usually it's just the one. I've now made it to 9 weeks... so I'm feeling like it is pretty safe at this point.
You can have coffee, but in moderation. I was drinking it in the beginning of this pregnancy but now it grosses me out. But once this 1st Trimester is over and I am able to hopefully eat again, I will be enjoying my cup of coffee again.

I had coffee with both my first 2 and this one and everything has been fine. My Dr said 200-300 mg of caffeine a day as well. He suggested I take it to help with morning sickness and headaches.

Caffeine in higher amounts has been linked to problems. I personally don't even go near the 200mg mark

I originally did this too and was just drinking decaf. When we met with the midwife, she said, "please drink your caffeine!" She said one or two cups a day are not a problem. It's if I were still working in a coffee shop and drinking it non-stop that she would be concerned. I haven't had much because it's currently one of my food aversions, but I do drink a cup of coffee or tea when I feel a migraine coming. We also tend to make half-caf most of the time so we can drink it more without all the side effects of excessive caffeine.

I guess I'm glad I'm getting an extra shot of vitamin C. It gets me going well enough. Sometimes I have a tea in the afternoon.

Thanks! So many times people will talk about studies with no information or backing
