New sleeping issues?

My daughter just turned one and for the past few nights has been having issues sleeping.

She will either go to sleep fine and then wake up at around midnight, crying and inconsolable, or we will not be able to get her to sleep at all (even rocking or laying with her.)

She's never had this problem before and the way she cries scares me. It seems like she is in a lot of pain.

She IS getting four of her top teeth in all at once, but she doesn't cry like this during the day. Have any of you been in a similar situation?

Re: New sleeping issues?

  • We are going through this too now that ds is getting molars. We also went through it with the top four teeth a few months ago as well where he tolerated it fine during the day but not at night. I think like anything, it feels worse when they are tired. I use a little Tylenol before bed and it really helps him. He still wakes up, but it's easier to get him to settle back down.

  • We went through the same thing when DD was around that age and it ended up being her molars. Most of the time she never seemed to have trouble during the day or even with naps but it would always affect her nighttime sleep...Tylenol or Advil always seemed to help.

  • We also had this as a molar issue 2 weeks back. It only lasted about 3 days - ONLY AT NIGHT- and nothing broke through, so I'm predicting it to happen again in a few weeks. One night, he woke up an hour and a half after going to bed and was fussy for 2 hours. If I sat there and rubbed his back, he was fine, and as soon as I thought he was asleep and had 1 foot out the door, he was up screaming. Ugh. such a long night.

When you play play play all day, of couse your teeth don't bother you. Its when you are relaxed.

Thanks for the tylenol tip. I'll try that when DS gets fussy again. Don't know why I didn't bother last time. I just hate medicating when I don't think I should, but if other people are doing it, its ok right?? :)

  • Thank you all for responding! It's really comforting to know that I am not alone.
And thanks for the tylenol tip! We will be trying that tonight. :)
