Best friend has freaked me out.

I had a lost last April at 11 weeks and I hit 12 weeks today. I've been freaking out just a little because my NT Scan is coming up this Thursday and I'm afraid there will be no heartbeat again. So I bought the only doppler Babies R Us had and searched and THOUGHT I found a heartbeat, my two aides THOUGHT they heard a heartbeat, and my SIL THOUGHT she heard one too. Still, I couldn't tell so I asked my best friend to check this weekend and she said "Nope, don't hear a thing. Stop freaking yourself out. I know you had a miscarriage last year but sometimes these things are for the best." I love her but can't believe she used the phrase "sometimes these things are for the best" and now I feel even more freaked out.

Thanks BF.

  • Those droppers don't always pick up the heartbeat at 12w, not even the ones in a doctors office. I understand how scared you are but I'd just enjoy being pregnant until you can see your baby at the next u/s. I know easier said than done

  • That's an awful thing to say.  Just keep trying.  Watch some YouTube videos to see if that helps distinguish sounds.  FTR, even 12w is early to find the HB on the doppler.  It will sound like a fast chuga-chuga or galloping horses.

  • I'm really sorry your friend said this. People can say some really stupid and insensitive things, especially related to TTC, loss, and pregnancy in general. GL at your scan this week!

My doc didn't hear the hb on his machine and I was 11w6d. I haven't had a loss before so I can only imagine but it did make me feel freaked out... I can relate to a BF saying hurtful things tho. One year after my father passed away I wrote a memorial to him was 22yrs old and my BF commented that it was time to let go. Friends can be so insensitive sometimes.
  • Ahh best friends!

    1. look on you tube at doppler videos. It helps you know what you're looking for.

    2. hopefully.. she meant the first miscarriage was for the best. Which we all know even though it's painfully hard to admit that miscarriages usually mean there was a problem with the baby.

    3. kick her in the shin next time!
