Sunscreen

What are the best sunscreens for baby? My mom was saying there are ones that absorb less into the skin so they are better for baby...does this sound familiar?

    You're not supposed to use sunscreen for a baby under 6 months...just keep them in the shade and out of the sun, especially during peak sun hours. If you're in a situation where baby will HAVE to be exposed to some sun (you're going on a beach vaca), I would ask your pedi.

    We are not using sunscreen until 6 months.

    Agree with PP, no sunscreen before 6 months.  Just keep them in the shade :-)

    look for something that's a sunBLOCK vs a sunSCREEN.  the only active ingredients you should see are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.  sunblocks sit on top of the skin and form a protective layer vs a chemical sunscreen that is absorbed into the skin.

    This.  Also, yes, babies should be kept out of the sun as much as possible but if there's a situation where you're faced with using sunblock or them getting a burn, obviously you go with the sunblock.

    All of the above. We are waiting til 6 months and then will keep baby in the shade when feasible. I bought Green Beaver sunscreen to use this summer. It's Canadian made, with zinc oxide as the active ingredient. What I looked for in a brand was that it was sunblock, made in North America (stricter standards), rated 1 on skin deep, used no nano particles (common in non whitening sunscreens) and was nonwhitening.

    Our pedi said we could use just a little sunscreen on her face and hands if we had to (ie, being somewhere there wasn't much shade) but that it's best to wait till after 6 months if possible.
