1st Trimester

Dizzy spells?

Is anyone still having them? I will be 11 weeks tomorrow. What are you doing for them? I try to eat every two to three hours and I'm drinking lots of water, which is the only fluids I can tolerate. I found myself sleeping on my back all night long and that could be a reason. I'm so not feeling this fourth pregnancy at all. I just want to go into a closet and cry my eyes out.

Re: Dizzy spells?

  • I was told that dizzy spells and headaches get more frequent late first tri into the second tri.

  • I'm trying not to worry myself about it because I knows it's normal but my hormones are making me emotional and sensitive to everything. I think being 38 years old is kind of getting to me and makes me more anxious and nervous about symptoms.

  • I have been getting them off and on too and, like you, I always get real anxious when it happens (like something is wrong) but when it passes I am able to tell myself this is all just part of the process and that I had the same thing happen with my last pregnancy.

  • I had my son to fix me a pbj. I felt a little better. I may need to eat more protein. The first trimester is always the hardest for me. I wish I was one of those women who don't have it so bad. Some women say they never had morning sickness or all these nice symptoms. It was easy breezy.

  • Ramp up your protein and sugars to maintain BP/blood sugar. Nuts, yogurt, yogurt covered raisins. I would have something with protein every single snack.

  • I see that's what I need to do more of. That pbj really helped me a lot. It's just been so hard finding foods I like right now. I usually like so many types of foods but it's not happening right now.

  • I have been getting these too. I cannot seem to keep anything down. I am trying to just make sure I am drinking enough water to help and I am trying to eat Saltines which are the only thing I am now keeping down. I didn't have it like this with DS at all and I am looking forward to the 2nd Trimester already.

  • I had them around 11-13 weeks and only a couple times since.  They don't seem to be blood sugar, iron or hydration related for me, and my mw said they can be totally normal.  I'd call to check in w/your ob/mw, but there's not necessarily anything you can do about it, or anything to worry about.
And in first tri it is totally fine to sleep on your back (unless you were getting dizzy while lying down).

  • My mom thinks that along with it being my first trimester, I'm not relaxing and stressing too much. She said I need to get up and get out more so I can get the blood flowing.

  • if by dizzy you mean lightheaded, then yes.  But I have P.O.T.S. & Neurocardiogenic syncope, which basically means low blood pressure, poor circulation, & frequent blacking out spells, so this is pretty common for me.  I have to get up very slow & even then am often lightheaded & have to hold onto something & wait a minute before moving anywhere.  So with being pregnant I just have to be extra cautious, I think the change in circulation is aggravating the condition a bit.  Hang in there!  For me what helps is lots of water or gatorade & salty foods to help me retain the water (this is what my doctor recommends), though obviously not everyone can eat lots of salt & remain healthy.  But the gatorade may help.  I also wear knee high compression stockings to help keep the blood circulating better, resulting in less dizzy/fainting spells.  Totally safe during pregnancy, btw, & recommended in fact, to help w/ blood flow/circulation.
