Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Question for mom's with school aged kids in sports

Hello all! I have not formally introduce myself, but I lurk and chime in when I have a few seconds sometimes. I am Jess. I stay home with my five kids ages, going on 11 and 8, 5, going on 3 and Asher who is 14 months.

For those of you who have kids in sports, what do you do with your toddler while you watch your child play? It's baseball season and last year Asher was happy to hang out in the stroller or sleep in the Ergo, but it's not as easy this year. My dh coaches or helps out during games and this past Saturday, between the three kids that play, we were at the fields for five hours. It's crazy, but having them involved and being involved and there to support them is important to us.

So, anyone have tips to keep your toddler occupied? I looked into a kidco travel bed, but I guess they have been recalled. Does anyone have one and would it be worth buying one from ebay?  Also, does anyone have any cool easy to travel with toys that your toddler loves? I wonder if I got new toys to just keep in the van for these outings maybe it would be more fun for the toddlers. It's not always going to be five hrs long, but it's going to be a few hrs and I want  everyone to enjoy that rare time that we are out as a family:)

And also, I just want to say that I really like this board, and the great ideas that are shared. I hope TB get's a Large Family's board someday, because we're really getting to the point where organizing and scheduling and finding just family time is making me want to want to pull my hair out:)

Re: Question for mom's with school aged kids in sports

  • I only have one kid but we go to cousin events and honestly its a nightmare. I would say a pack and play and one of those pop up adult tents for shade. My ds wants to be anywhere but sitting and watching the game. Sorry no help maybe get a sitter every now and again so you can enjoy the older kids to. Idk sorry gluck

  • Thanks! I figured there was no real good solution. I just wondered if anyone's kids did well in one of those travel tent/ beds for a while. I'm happy to let him wander around, but I'd like him to also sit and be happy, maybe rest, and be shaded too. I think we may have to consider a babysitter for the long days:) It is a nightmare and I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so! I love to watch, but it's boring for the little ones and on game nights when dh works, it's just me going. I'm going to check out maybe little beach pop up tents and a blanket.
