Next Baby Dilemma

I have baby fever right now...

We are starting a project at work and I have a pretty important role on the project.  The project is not set to complete until end of 2009.

My DD just turned two.  Am I doing my child(ren) a disservice by waiting until the project is complete to have my 2nd baby?

Re: Next Baby Dilemma

  • No, I definitely don't think you are doing your kids a disservice by waiting, but I also wouldn't plan TTC around a work project - if you really feel the time is right otherwise then I'd go for it!

  • I am not really a good person to answer this since I work full time, and pregnant with number 2 and I am in grad school. DH and I didn't want our kids very far apart 3-4 years and we trust that things will work out the way it should. You have to do things when you feel it is the right time. You can still get pregnant in 4 months or so and have the baby a month or two after the project is completed if you want.

  • I'm opposite of the PPs...I WOULD wait until you were done with the project - if it made your PG and maternity leave/post-partum transition easier. I have my own small biz and while I'd like to TTC in the spring, we will be TTC #2 in the spring of 2010 - b/c of work obligations and financial responsibilities.

PS My DS is turning 2 in Feb.

  • Maybe you could just time it where you wouldn't deliver until after the project is completed. That is just waiting another 4 months or so?
  • I probably would go ahead and TTC.  You never know what may happen with work projects, especially in this economy, and schedules are bound to run over even if you try to plan.  You also never know about TTC-- I hope it would be easy for you with #2, but I know a few T-TTCers who had no problems and then couldn't get PG again.
  • I got a new job back in March and stopped TTC so that I could devote myself completely to that job.  7 months later I got laid off.  No job.  No 2nd baby.  I honestly don't know what to do anymore.  It doesn't make sense to TTC when I have no job.  When I get a new job, I don't know if I should wait a few months or what I should do anymore.

If your job is stable and you love what you're doing, I think it might make sense to wait.  I'd probably only wait a few months so you would end up being pg through part of the project and deliver the baby after it was done.

You need to do what's right for you.  Do you want to focus on your career or your family?  (I don't think there's a right answer to that question either.)
