New to The Bump

1st time mom, long time lurker

Hi all!

I've been reading up around this site for a few months now but decided it was time to go ahead and make a post here.

My husband of 7 years and I are expecting our first children in October, due date is October 10th, and found out at our first prenatal appointment (at 8 weeks) that we are expecting twins (mono/di apparently).  This was a huge shock to us and I think we are still trying to really understand what all that means even though I'm already almost 14 weeks now.

We stopped trying to 'stop' from having a baby about 3 years ago, meaning I went off birth control, and had decided to just let life happen, if we had babies then cool, if we didn't we didn't and that's just the way it was.  I've always had lots of gyn issues and knew that it might not be easy so that was a big reason as to why we weren't really trying for children but were more just letting what happen happen....and boy did it!

Personally I'm really excited but also really nervous.  I've never even held a baby before and now I'm going to be having two of them.  Thinking about the daycare issue is also quite......well horrifying really...and at this point that is really sucking out some of the excitement for me.  We are working a lot with my employer though and I'm sure we will come up with a good solution eventually, we just haven't found it yet.

So there you have it, the short story of what the last 10 weeks of our families life has been like...thanks for reading! Big Smile

  • Welcome and congrats!

See if your hospital has a newborn care class. That can get a you a little more comfortable with some of the things you'll need to know out of the gate.

  • Congratulations! Being a mom is the best thing ever, although it does have its challanging days : When it comes to the daycare issue have you thought about becoming a "stay at home mom?" I am home with my two daughters two and 10 months while in the evenings and overnights I work at a Group Home. It's not the most glamorous job, but I am able to get a small break from the kids and make a little income too. Good luck on whatever you decide and congrats!!

    Thanks everyone Smile

The hospital I will be having the twins at has 2 different classes they run for parents but they aren't supposed to start until you are in your 3rd trimester so our doctor is trying to get us an exception to get in a bit early.

I would love to be a stay at home mom but that's just not something that we can make work at this time.  I never wanted to have to go back to work right after having my kids but, well, we don't always get what we want I guess.
