Intro and Confused w all the IF info we've received

Hello, My name is Marie. We have one angel already who was conceived absolutely effortlessly (first cycle!), he's now 2.5yrs and the love of my life! We've been trying since 3/12, done 5 cycles of Clomid and the latest one coupled w Metformin. I'm 35 and was scared I was past my time until an u/s showed I have TONS of eggs (woohoo!!). SA for DH showed SC of 10MM and an abnormality rate of 95% (tho motility was good). Since DS was born my cycles have been really abnormal (they've always been screwy but when I was preg the first time they were actually very regular for a few years). They diagnosed me w PCOS, but haven't seen any cysts on any of the u/s.

We finally started seeing an IF specialist last week and it seems they are pushing us straight to IVF. They gave a reason IUI wasn't as good an option but I can't remember why (we got SO much info that day!). We still have a bunch of tests to do, incl another SA, so maybe things will change once they have those results.

Ins won't cover IVF and I'm scared of the process (so many needles, so many hormones!) but I don't want to waste the $ on IUI if it's not going to work.

 Anyone have a similar situation?

Thanks for reading my post. Warm wishes to everyone!

    Welcome. Here is my take.

I think of your age, I am the same age, and since there is a male factor and some on your side, they think you will get better results with IVF. IUI will require needles too and you will get a much lower success rate. That is my situation too and that is what I was told. You will most likely get ton of eggs via ER and then you can do frozen cycles if IVF does not work. Hopefully it will work, but FET is easier than a whole new IVF and cheaper.

I wish you all the luck in the world and I hope your stay on this board is short.

Not really a similar situation.  However, I am 38 and had our first LO at age 36.  One of the reasons I waited so long was my fear of needles.  Honestly, it was more of the thought.  I knew I was ready to be a parent when I was able to overcome my fear to conceive.  I knew it was something I really wanted.  I now wish I would not have waited soooo long.  It really was not that bad.  I have even gave a co-worker her allergy shot once.  I would've never been able to do that before because of my fear.  The first time was the worst because I didn't know how much it would hurt.  The first time they drew my blood work I was fine when they did it, but broke down in the car.  Now, I am more than happy to tell them to do my left arm.  I am sure you will be fine with the needles.  Good luck!!!!

Thanks for your input, I'm pretty sure that's what the Dr was getting at when she recommended IVF. Helpful to hear another's take. Cheers
