Tell me about iui

Some quick background info on me in case you don't know my story.

I was diagnosed with blocked tubes in Nov. of 2011. We went straight to IVF. I have had 2 RE's and have done a total of 3 failed IVF's. I just had another HSG done and both tubes are completely clear! My RE said we could try iui if we wanted. I don't know much about it and I am not sure if it's worth it since we have had 3 failed IVF's (although the 1st 2 were crappy and I have issues with my first RE). And since blocked tubes are not my issue, I don't know what is. My egg quality is "ok" (not good, not bad...just "ok"). Do you still stim with iui? Any thoughts or insight would be great.

Also just another quick question:

We do have a frozen embryo, although I am not holding out much hope for it. We planned on doing the FET in May, but my clinic has changed their protocol (long lupron). I have to wait until AF shows up, go for a baseline, then start lupron for a month. So we are actually looking at June. Has anyone heard of this protocol or know of the benefits/reasoning behind it?

Basically an Iui is turkey basting. They give you clomid or injectibles then look at your follies until they are ready for trigger then tell you when to trigger 4836 hours later they do the Iui. A catheter is inserted and the sperm is injected then you stay lying for 30mins and go home.

I think at this point where you're at in this process, going to an IUI would be a step backwards. The only justification I can think of offhand would be if you had MFI as an issue and decided to do an IUI w/ DS....otherwise, I think you need to find the cause for the IVF not working first. Just my two cents

This. Even though your tubes aren't blocked, it doesn't explain why 3 IVFs failed. I wasted 6 precious months at age 38 doing IUIs and I will always wonder if my eggs would have made it if we did IvF back then. I would not go backwards.

That's my concern too. I feel like I would be going backwards, but my husband thinks we should give it a try. This is beyond frustrating!

I agree with pp that it doesn't really make sense for you to go backwards, but that is only a decision you can make. I do think that before you move forward with any treatment, your RE should be running tests on you to determine why you are having repeat failures. It is a bit of a red flag to me that after 3 failed ivf's, your doc has not suggested investigating your case further. It doesn't make sense for you to continue going through the physical, emotional and financial strain of this to keep having failed cycles. You should be tested for autoimmune issues, infections, blood clotting disorders, karyotyping, etc. You also might want to consider doing pgs testing on your embryos. I have had all this testing done and still have no answers as to why it's not working for me, but I am at least glad things are being checked out. I am looking into new docs and specialists, b/c I refuse to put any embryos in me until I find a doc that can help crack my case. Be your own advocate and request as much testing as possible! GL!

I agree with others. I cant see your siggy since I'm on an iphone but your DH should be tested with an SCSA test and possibly both of you should have karyotyping done.

IUIs aren't necessarily going backwards but in your case it seems odd and possibly a waste of and more importantly time.

They test TNF, LAD and clotting issues

I'd agree with everyone else to try to find out more information as to what's behind your failed IVFs first. What's your age and what are your amh/fsh/afc levels?

I think its definitely worth it to transfer your remaining embryo before you try something else. I do think you should give IUI a shot - even just as a break from doing IVF - because you never know what might happen.
