Persistent Upper Back Pain

I'm 6.5 weeks pregnant... Haven't seen a doc yet and for the past week I've been having this pain in my upper and middle back. It feels like my spine needs to be cracked.. When I do, it dosen't really help. And the muscles next to my spine are hurting. I've taken Tylenol 650mg twice! And it didn't work. The only time I can find relief is when I do child's pose yoga. It really helps stretch the vertebra.. I've had this issue before.. Like 2 years ago... Docs didn't know what was wrong, they just kept me high on pain meds. Has anyone had a similar experience?? Help please! My back is KILLING ME!!

Re: Persistent Upper Back Pain

  • I'm sorry! Have you been to a chiropractor? I was skeptical at first [I have horrible vertebrae issues etc. and see an orthopedic doctor since middle school] but I saw one on the recommendation of my OB/GP/Ortho. Oh my gosh it has helped me so much!

In between appointments I've found that water intake makes a big different as well as sleep positioning. Invest in a good pregnancy pillow. It's worth the money.

Prenatal massage and chiropractor have helped me as I've gotten larger too. Also you might as your GP/OB to culture your urine for a UTI or bladder infection. Often, those are symptomless until they get pretty advanced to cause back pain right under the rib bones in the back radiating downwards.

So I'd talk to your OB about referrals. Good luck!

  • Have your boobs been sore? My upper back has been sore and it's always on the days that my boobs feel huge. I had already read to expect that, but it is definitely an annoying pain! Keep doing your yoga!
