Bio Oil vs Lotion vs W/e Maderma is !

I think im going to try bio oil this pregnancy, In the past i have used palmers coco butter and a couple other lotions... i srsly have like 500 lotions lol ( i get tiered of scents really fast) never tried the oil. Last time i looked like a tiger attacked my stomach! Wanna avoid that this time. Also why is maderma 40 freaking dollars for a small tube does it work that well?

  • I've read lots of places that no oil or cream can prevent them and its just a matter of your skin elasticity and genetics. : That being said, I'm using both lol. I figure it can't hurt and If its genetics my mom and sister got them pretty bad and I'd rather not. I got a vitamin e oil at Walgreens for about 20 and then a stretch mark lotion for 14. I'm about 8 weeks so I don't know yet if they work or not.

  • My midwife said the are completely genetic! If your mom and grandma had them then you most likely will too! I asked my mom about hers and she didn't get any with either me or my brother. She also knew that neither my grandma and my great had them either. I'm hoping the same happens for me.! I hear that staying hydrated by drinking lots if water helps. I will be using the Vaseline pure coco butter oil gel. It's a bit greasy but keeps my skin hydrated all day! I have just been putting it on my belly but my husband says he can feel the difference!

  • I didn't use anything last time and didnt get stretch marks. I had gained 28lbs. I think weight gain has a lot more to do with stretch marks than oils, but the other posters are right about genetics.  If someone gains 70lbs no amount of bio oil or madema is going to help!

Couldn't agree more! Save your money

  • Hi! I wanted to weigh in on this one. My first pregnancy I gained nearly 40lbs and used bio oil and came out with NO stretch marks. My OB was shocked and even asked me what I used! I think the trick for me was starting before any real growth started. I started using it mid first trimester. I will absolutely be using it again!

  • I'm another one that's heard that nothing is going to work; if you're going to get stretch marks, you'll get them, no matter if you use lotion/oils etc.

  • As for it being completely genetic, perhaps genetics do play a role, however not entirely.

My mother and sister both have lots of stretch marks. I did not get a single stretch mark during my last pregnancy.

    What gives?

I stayed physically fit and gained the allotted weight as directed by my doctor. They did not. Stay active, ladies. I used Palmers lotion. I have no idea if it helped or not.

  •  My first pregnancy i got no stretch marks and had lost 30 pnds during my pregnancy but gained it all back from pumping, i blame green bean cass.=o lol my 2nd i used all sorts of lotion and nothing helped then i looked like a tiger  =/ i gained like 10-15 pnds with him. I walked and excercised most the time, this time im on bed rest -.- so i already know the mark of the tiger is going to come back lol
  • My mother has a TON of stretch marks from me, and I only got 1 tiny one near my belly button. Genetics does play a role, but I don't think it is the end all/be all either. Weight gain also plays a part (I gained about 35 lbs altogether with my DD), but I do believe how moisturized your skin is factors in too. FWIW, I used Bio Oil the whole pregnancy. I don't think it'll hurt to use it again, so I plan to.
