Two Under 2

Do you find yourself not buying a lot for LO#2?

Especially if they are the same sex. I have 2 kids already (DD-5 and DS-14 months) and I am due with boy #2 in July. I don't find myself interested in buying anything really. I know I want to buy a double stroller and a better monitor but even those aren't necessary.

I have clothes, toys, cloth diapers, bottles, bassinet etc. I feel like I should be buying things but I'm not really sure what.

  • Your 'to buy' list looks exactly like mine except I don't cloth diaper so I also need newborn diapers.

  • I have 2 boys but they were born exactly 6 months apart on the calendar year, and even in Houston's mild climate, this has caused me to need new clothes for the baby.  At the age DS1 was wearing shorts, DS2 needed long sleeves and long pants.  Other than clothes, I've bought almost nothing besides pacifiers and a few new toys.  DS1 became very mobile early on and DS2 is not, so he needs more entertainment.

  • If I was having another boy, I wouldn't be buying anything except a double stroller (eventually) and a swing (because we didn't have one for DS). And we just got a video monitor, but that was actually because I wanted to watch DS, and I just used LO2 as an excuse to get it.

But I'm having a girl, so I'm having fun buying clothes.

  • There really isn't much to buy (except clothes if #2 is a different sex, or born in a different season).  We reused almost everything, several times... it's very different than the first time around.

  • My to buy list also includes stuff for a second nursery?
  • I have 2 girls at home and expecting DS in July.  My to do list is finished because all it had on there was to buy a coming home outfit.  :-). I was team green with DD1 so we have a ton of gender neutral clothing in newborn and 0-3.  I also have a nephew who gave us a bunch of his old clothes from last year.  We're set for the most part.

  • I've bought more than I planned on, since LO1 was a girl, and LO2 is a boy. I kept most of the bigger stuff gender neutral the first time, but we've purchased a decent amount of clothing, and a second crib / carseat etc.

  • I haven't bought a lot for DD #3, mostly clothes since DD#2 was a winter baby and DD#3 will be a spring/summer baby. Ive purchased a double stroller and new tubing and membranes for my breast pump. Only other things I've purchased is baskets and things to organize the nursery since they will be sharing a bedroom after DD#3 gets older.

  • I am having a second boy and feel like I am not planning to buy anything, They will only be two months apart with their birthdays so his clothes will be seasonally close enough that I won't need to buy anything else, and DS#2 will be in with us until DS #! moves into his "Big Boy bed", so we are not buying any extra nursery furniture.

I might buy a double stroller, but we are waiting until after DS #2 gets here to see if we need it (DS#1 will be 21-22 months my then), and I may get more diapers & wipes (we cloth diaper, but I don't plan on DS#1 being in diapers for long after DS#2 is born)

So all in all, I can't see me needing anything for DS#2, I feel bad, but I am sure we will get a few things in the end, at the very least we will buy him a Little Brother T-shirt Smile

Diagnosed with Anti little c antibodies. DS1 7.11.11 - Anaemia and Jaundice. 10 days in the NICU, 1 exchange transfusion and 4 blood transfusions. DS2 29.8.13 - Anaemia 7 days in the NICU and 1 exchange transfusion. Both are now happy and healthy.

  • I'm having another boy who will be 25 months younger than DS1, so his clothing seasons will be all the same as DS1's. It's incredibly convenient because I have needed to buy zero clothes.

This time around, I did get a very good double stroller since we use ours a lot. But otherwise, most of our purchases have been to replace things that have worn out since DS1 was a baby or to get a second of whatever we need more of: 2nd humidifier, replace the fan in the nursery, upgrade to a video baby monitor that can take two cameras, more Vitamin D drops, more baby care products, diapers, a 2nd baby mirror for the car, replace pacis, bottle nipples, and pump parts, etc.

We've actually spent more money on DS1 as he's entering the toddler stage and has a need for older kid stuff.

  • We thought we were done... So I gave away all my 0-9 month boy clothes... This is a 3rd boy and will be getting new clothes. I do have everything after 9 months though. Other then that we will just be buying diapers and wipes. I have enough blankets to last for like 6 boys. Some have never been used. We did buy a double stroller off of craigs list. Other then that, we don't need anything else.

  • We are about to have #3 and I haven't bought even one thing for this kiddo.  We do cloth also so I even have all the diapers I'll need.  I may have to add some to the stash since I'll actually have two in diapers this time.  I think Christmas is tough and birthdays too with the 2nd.  They just don't need anything.  All the toys from the first worked just fine and my 2nd didn't even really want to play with baby toys.
