Babies: 3 - 6 Months

STM moms and anyone who's dealt with teething

My son is one week shy of 4 months and I think he's begun teething already. It's at the very early end of the age range but he's exhibiting all of the symptoms.

My question for all of you who've gone through teething before is, how long does it usually take from the time the symptoms start until the tooth actually cuts through?

  • It does - My little guy went through it at the same time and had his two bottom teeth cut through at 5.5 months. For a month and a half we had tons of drool, nasty diapers and an irritable baby.

  • DD's been showing signs since about 14 weeks... 21 weeks on Sunday and still nothing.
  • It never seemed to phase DD.  The only ones that bothered her were her bottom canines other than that they would just pop through without a complaint.  Even her molars, she had two in before I even realized they were coming!  Not sure what symptoms you are seeing, but some kids are just more drooly than others and they all like to chew on their hands :)
  • At this age they can be drooling, chewing on things for a long time before you see teeth. When they wake up screaming with their hands in their mouth, you'll see teeth in about a week. That's our experience.

  • With DD1, symptoms always started anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 days before teeth popped in. I remember with her first two bottom teeth, she didn't show any signs of teething, and one day I noticed them. It really ranges so much, but helping them cut through with frozen wash cloths, teething rings, and just letting em chew like crazy will definitely help speed up the process.

  • DD cut her first at 4 months as well. I cant remember exactly how long it took to come through, but maybe like 5 days to a week? Chewy toys help break the gums.
