Update: Finally found a nanny

I have posted on here several times about my nanny problems and just wanted to update everyone.  My situation was that we initially hired a nanny off of care dot com, but then found out she was smoking on the job.  My LO was a little early and IUGR so it was completely unacceptable to have a smoker caring for him.  She had lied about being a smoker during the interview.  So, obviously, we had to let her go.

Then we hired a new nanny who turned out to be really great.  Unfortunately, about 2 months into the relationship, we found out she was going to have to move back to India due to some personal issues.

So, basically, I was looking for a new nanny for the 3rd time in 6 months.  We scheduled several interviews, but only 2 ladies showed and neither of them was a good fit--one live far away and wanted significantly more money than what we wanted to pay (and the going rate) and the other just didn't even seem like she liked kids.  Then we started looking at daycare, but that didn't seem like a good fit either.  I was to the point of feeling pretty despondent.  Fortunately, someone new applied to my add on care.com.  We interviewed her and she seemed really great. She has just moved to this area.  We checked all of her references and she got rave reviews.  I am really relieved.  I just hope that she sticks around now...

  • As someone currently looking for a nanny, I totally feel sorry for you! THREE Times in 6 months? That is SOOO crappy. I really, really hope the new one works out for you. I have an interview to do for our position tomorrow and another Wednesday.

  • I'm thrilled you found someone and wow...can I just say what a selfish person your last nanny was for putting the health of your LO at risk by lying to you about smoking. I would be enraged. It would almost prompt me to sue, to be honest with you, but smoking is my soapbox issue so I'm totally insane about it. Ha.
  • What a relief! Hope she works out.

  • That's great news!  I think we've also found our new nanny and I'm going to extend her an offer tonight.  She's also our third nanny, but over 2 years.   FX that these nannies are great and stick around for a while!
