LO is 16 weeks and we're on our way to CA from MD. 2 flights both ways. Staying for a week to visit his father. I'm flying solo. ADVICE please??
I've heard to nurse during take off/landing and to pack an extra shirt for myself in case of an accident.
What about dealing with baby jet lag? How do I help baby stay on some kind of schedule? We probably won't have any kind of consistency since we're trying to see everyone in his dads family and my friends in week. What else should I know, do, pack, expect?
Thanks!
Re: Advice for our first cross country flight!
As for sleep...I'm worried, too! I figure we'll try to do our usual things at our usual times while also going with the flow. Kinda hard to explain jet lag to an infant, haha!
Bring a blanket. It's always cold. I take my sling but FAA rules sat they can't be on you during landings and take offs.
I've worn him through security no prob but with suitcases and stuff I just do curbside check in then keep him in his stroller/ carseat combo til the gate then gate check it. That way it's all waiting for you at the gate and less likely to get ruined in baggage. I always fly southwest and they're so helpful. They do mans you sign something saying they can break stuff but not lose it. Our stroller is definitely showing abuse after 12 flights.
It's really not that hard. Plan for extra time. I try to go two hours early but on my return trip from Denver with security's help I made it through with 15 mins til my flight. I don't recommend. Lots of tears.
Just go prepared. Bring baby's birth certificate, your ID, snacks, some cash, extra diapers, change of clothes for baby nothing like a blowout on a plane!, and get ready to wait around a lot! Take your sense of humor too!
