Laundry secrets?

Anyone have any laundry tips? I have at least one super small laundry load every day because she either spits up or has a blow out. I'm worried about stains and smells that won't go away but that's a lot of detergent and water plus I don't think I can keep it up once I return to work. And speaking of work ... anyone have any tips for getting stains out of clothes that come home from day care? I was thinking on putting a stain stick in her bag. Thanks!

Re: Laundry secrets?

  • I cloth diaper, and I don't even do laundry very day! I wash diapers every other day, even though some moms will go 3 with those, and her clothes every 2 to 3 days, depending on if I have enough or not. I only have one onesie that had a stain that didnt wash out, and that was meconium on a plain white onesie she wears to bed, so I didn't try too hard to get it out.

To get out stains, put it out in the sun while still wet...if it works for poo stains in diapers, idk why it wouldn't work for clothes, too!

And I figure, if it stains, it stains...it's baby clothes, not the end of the world!

  • You can always soak clothes on the days you aren't doing laundry just to keep the stains from setting in. I treat with stain remover then toss it in the washer, let it fill up with water and soak until I have a full load. Then just drain the washer and start a load. This has worked for me so far.
  • I use Oxi Clean Free in each load of DD's laundry and it gets out even the worst poop stains. If I'm not going to do laundry that day, I just soak anything that got really stained in some water with a little bit of the Oxi Clean. Works great!

  • I cloth diaper too but I do wash them daily since I am still collecting cloth diapers. Other than a few leaks from novice diaperers, I have not had problems with either pee or poo gettingon the baby clothes and I have not worried about breastmilk or formula staining, so far even with doing exactly nothing to treat stains before washing, I have not noticed any stains.

  • As pp already said the sun is your best help...it can do amazing things. After the laundry set the damp garment either outside or in a window to dry. You will be amazed at ehat the sun will fade!

  • We use oxyclean as a pretreater and do laundry every 2 to 3 days and his clothes have always come clean... As for putting a stain stick in the diaper bag for at daycare, I wouldn't bother honestly unless you have someone you know watching your baby! I've worked in childcare for over 10 years now, 8 of it was in infant/toddler rooms at several different daycare facilities and there are so many babies even if it's a small facility with excellent service for the workers to take care of that my guess is the clothes will probably never see the stain stick!

  • I usually do one big load a week, sometimes two if i have time or LO has been extra messy. i wash in warm water with Dreft and oxyi clean. will use hot water if there have been poo accidents,  have had everything come clean so far, did have a few onesies that were badly stained, just soaked them in oxiclean, washed again and they were fine.
  • I'd heard that the sun was good for stains, but I was honestly blown away the first time I tried it. Major poop stains were completely gone in just a few hours outside. And this was an outfit that had been pooped in, tied up in a plastic bag, and left like that for a few days before laundry. It was nasty.
  • I thought I had tried it all then my mom suggested the dish soap from Norwex. I takes out any stain and is gentle. It's amazing! Stuff that woudn't come out after numerous cycles and spot treatments are now coming out! It's amazing!! Good luck!
