TTC after 35

late, but BFN

Hi ladies.

I am completely out of the TTC loop, as it's been 7 years since I was TTC my ds. I got divorced when ds was 3. Fi and I have been together for 2 and a half years and are getting married in July. Our plan was to TTC in July when we get married. I will be 38 this summer.

Now I am a week late for my period. I am usually VERY regular. I have been a little stressed lately, but no more than normal, no diet changes, no exercise changes. I am pretty certain I o'ed the first weekend of April -- I track this because I can't take hormonal birth control. I wasn't home the weekend I o'ed, so no sex was had around that time and all sex leading up to that was with a condom. That's the background.

I took two hpt -- one at 3 days late and one at 5 days late. Both were negative. Could I still be pregnant? What are some other things that could delay a period by a week?

Fi and I talked about it last night and if I am pg, we will be very happy about that. My concern isn't "OMG I might be pregnant and it wasn't planned and now what do we do?" It's more "OMG I'm late and I never am. Early menopause? Something bad?"

Any stories would be helpful.

Thanks

I know the feeling of being late when you are never late. I waited about 2 weeks then made a doctors appointment. I know some ppl say test every week and if nothing after a month then call the DR but heck I'm 39 a month is too long. Turned out I had some other problems going on.

Hopefully you just O'd late and get a positive test soon. Good luck!

Did you temp? If not, then you can't be certain you o'd. If you are actually "late" for your period then you should be pregnant enough to get a positive on a hpt.

You probably o'd later than you think you did (or not at all yet). If you o'd later than you think you did, then you could certainly be pregnant, but just too early to get a +hpt (in which case you are still not yet "late" for your period).

Many things can delay ovulation. Stress. (ETA: I see you already mentioned this) Changing sleep cycles. a cold. In fact, statistics state that most women (even those who are always regular) ovulate late every once in a while.

I would wait another week, and if you still haven't gotten your period, take another test. If you go 60 days without a period, call your doctor.

    Good luck!

Are you temping, charting, etc to know when you O'd?

Cycles are regular until they aren't. Everyone can have an off cycle for no reason, ovulate later than normal, have a longer LP than usual, etc. especially at our age.

It would be awesome to be pregnant, right?

Still, think about other reasons you may be late.  You're getting married soon. Stress, could cause a missed period. I missed a few the year I married DH.  We were far from TTC, so it got concerning, even after BFNs.  I was in grad school, training for some very long road bike rides, and planning a wedding.  My OB attributed it to stress....

    Hang in there.  Cool
