Success after IF

Oh bother

So in the past Hannah has taken a bottle no problem. No nipple confusion or anything. Well recently she has been fighting the bottle.

Today while my mom was watching her, flat out refusal and screaming! I had to come back home. I've never heard her cry like that before. Put her on the boob, she nursed for 45 minutes. I guess I should be flattered she prefers me. I don't know what to. do!! There goes my date nights :p

  • Oh no! Sorry Hannah messed up your plans. Babies just love to do that. Hopefully this is just a phase that won't last. How often does she usually get one?

She used to get one once a day, until about two weeks ago. Due to her obvious behavior I stopped supplementing her. I'll need her to take one once or twice a week come end of May. Doing some part time work for my MIL. If Hannah will let me!

Unfortunately, IME the only way to get a cranky baby to take a bottle is to be persistent and consistent in offering them.

This 100%. I am so glad to hear that nursing is going so well for you! I know you worked very hard to get here. If you need LO to take a bottle consistently, I would have your dh give her a bottle once a day or every other day. When this is happening, you have to be far away from the action so she doesn't see, hear, and especially smell you. It might take some work, but she will get it and you will get your date night back. :) GL!

  • I can't see how old your LO is but DD went on a bottle strike from 9 to 16 weeks. I just kept offering a 1oz bottle [didnt want to waste too much BM] every couple days and eventually she started taking it again. If I was gone from the house she would just wait for me to return to eat again.

Edit you can still have date night as long as you aren't gone more than 2 to 3 hrs!

  • Oh no! J was having bottle troubles also. Have YH do the bottle feeds a couple times a week. I think it would be frustrating and confusing for you to refuse her the boob when you have worked so hard to get to EBF.

    Good luck!
