What did she suggest you use instead? I've only heard of not using wipes if/when your baby has a diaper rash. In that case, they suggest rinsing the baby off with plain water.
I was never told that. But it makes sense that allergic reactions can happen. They make wipes that say they are for more sensitive skin. The same thing goes with certain brands of diapers, though. I wouldn't worry too much, you won't know if the baby's skin is sensitive to it unless you try them.
We had heard that but not all babies have a reaction. We started out with babyganics brand wipes, then just switched to pampers. we never had an issue. When DS got his first really bad diaper rash he was 12 mo and we used water and soft clothes.
I think that's a bit extreme. I suppose you're supposed to just use a washcloth and water. By that way of thinking you should probably avoid pretty much everything until they're 4 months because they could be allergic to just about anything.
Re: Taking a caring for your infant class....
When DS has diaper rash I don't use wipes because the irritate it more.
I've heard of it being recommended but never heard of someone actually not using wipes.
We purchase unscented wipes and never had a problem. If we did I'd just make my own.
