Hello!
I wanted to say hello and that I miss being on here everyday! I def read every post while BFing but since I only have one hand I normally don't respond to posts. Congrats to all the recent baby's! Good luck to those still waiting, hang in there! And I am enjoying learning about everyone's stories and questions. As a FTM everything is helpful!
My LO has been awesome about feeding but we have been using a nipple shield since birth. I went to see an LC today to work towards removing the shield. After feedings etc the LC stated that she does not feel that I am producing enough milk (make sense since my LO has been feeding every hour!). She praised me for being so dedicated to feeding that frequently. I have seen many posts on here about increasing supply so I thought I would tell you what she recommended. I went and purchased a supplement called "More Milk Plus." It has both Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle as well as other herbs and seeds in it. They are expensive but she said it would work within two days. She also wanted me to wait until 30-45 minutes after a feeding and pump.
We worked on removing a shield but it may take a few days for my LO to get used to it. I left feeling informed and confident that I could improve my BFing relationship with my LO. We bought the supplement on the way home and I took it immediately (FYI, it is expensive).
The first feeding after arriving home I was in tears, my LO ate for two hours and I felt incompetent for not being able to give her enough milk to be full. I went from confident to tears. Eventually she feel asleep and 45 minutes later I pumped and got a total of 2oz out of my left and 1 out of my right. Sounds like it should be enough to feed her. (at the LC after weighing the LC stated that LO was only getting 1/2-3/4 oz) I am just sitting here hoping she doesn't want to feed in the next 30 minutes because I may be empty ![]()
Side note this was my first time pumping and it was interesting! lol I kind of felt like a cow being milked. How do you all clean your pump after? Between frequent feedings, pumping, and trying to sleep I am going to be one busy lady. Is rinsing them with hot water enough?
Re: LC apt today and pumping
More Milk Plus is way cheaper on Amazon. I think it's $45 or something ridiculous in the stores around here and I got it for $30 on Amazon.
You may want to call about the fact you could pump that much though. That'd make me think it's a problem with milk transfer or a lazy eater, not supply, especially since a pump isn't as effective as a baby at getting milk out
I read the red raspberry leaf helps increase supply an drinking at least a gallon of water a day so we are trying those to start with. I have been drinking a lot but not a gallon.
