While discussing more about our birthplans with OB, for the second time, she mentioned that we have the personality for a natural birth. As confident as I feel after hearing that, it doesn't make sense that my personality may help me accomplish our goal of a natural birth. Has anyone heard this from their doctor or think that this will affect my labor?

I'm very independent by nature, to the point of infuriatingly stubborn sometimes, haha. I do my own background research and counter-research for every decision. But ultimately that wound up being a good combination for natural birth. <

OP, to answer your question, I dunno. I think different women end up going med-free for every different reasons. I'm not at all similar to my SILs, but all three of us have going med-free for our births.

It's kind of a strange thing to say, but at least it's positive.
There are a variety of motivations and reasons for wanting a med-free birth, so I would say there are a variety of personalities to whom it appeals.
