FET #2, Transferring 3 -- Advice, Stories Thoughts?

Hi ladies,

Looking for some advice, opinions, anything.  I don't post often or ever I guess.

DH & I used IVF to conceive our little boy.  I had 18 eggs retreived and fertilized.  We transferred the 2 best embryos we had.

We went through a FET in Februray to try for #2.  It was unsuccessful.  We transferred another 2 embryos.

So, here we are. Our transfer for FET #2 is next Thursday.  We have 3 embryos left and plan to transfer all 3.  The RE of course will do it, but he only recommends doing 2.  All 3 are of good quality.

My friends think transferring all 3 is crazy.  I guess our thoughts are, we transferred 2, had one baby.  Transferred another 2, no pregnancy.  Makes sense to transfer 3.

Anyone have any experience transferring 3?  (sorry for all the rambling, my friends don't understand.)

Re: FET #2, Transferring 3 -- Advice, Stories Thoughts?

  • Honestly?  I would not transfer 3 unless they were poor quality.  Past cycles don't seem to have any predictive value in this case -- just because they didn't all take last time doesn't reduce the chance that they might all take this time.&nb

  • Personally I would go with the dr reco and transfer 2 if it were me. Save one for later if needed. I have transferred one and two never three. I have had some work and not others. I know it is hard to have it not work. It was harder for me doing an fet wh

  • Sorry, but I agree with the other ladies.  I wouldn't transfer more than you want to get pregnant with.  For me, that would mean no way would I transfer three.  Triplets are a possibility and too high risk for me.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • I have never done IVF, however if I did I would definitely not transfer three embryos.  A triplet pregnancy scares the crap out of me.  Good luck with your decision.

We transferred 3 to get the one baby I am holding now. Our first transfer we put back two fresh 3 day embies. I got pregnant with one. That pregnancy resulted in a blighted ovum and miscarriage. Our remaining embies all stopped growing by day 4 so we had

  • I wouldn't do it. With IVF #1 we transferred two, one stuck, and I had a m/c so no baby. With IVF #2 we transferred two, one stuck, and we had DS. With our FET we never thought both embies would stick based on our track record, but they did and I am pregn

  • Personally, I would never transfer three because I would not want triplets.  Heck, some people transfer 2 and end up with triplets.  If you are not ready to be pregnant with triplets and have triplets, I would not do it.

I guess part of our decision is that we only have 3 embryos left and it's costly to continue to have 1 frozen, and yes it's costly to have triplet babies.  I personally would not spend the almost $5,0
