Anyone else stopping work early?

I'm a high school teacher, and last time, I worked until I got put on modified bed rest with about a week left.  I had plans to go up until I have the baby, but these past two days have been ROUGH.

I think that I might ask my doctor next week if I can be done a week before my due date.  (I have GD, so I'm for sure being induced on my due date if I don't go before that).  I feel like a slacker, but I have all my sub plans ready to go after I was in LD earlier this week for low heart rate concerns.

I'm just sick of being stressed, and my feet are GIGANTIC due to edema.  Anyone else stopping earlier?

Re: Anyone else stopping work early?

  • I stopped this week two weeks before due date company policy. Officially wed was my first day of leave but I took the whole week.

I stopped at the end of March. I have nothing but respect for the women who are still working, but you have to listen to your body. If you are able to leave now, and it's what you think is best for yourself and your baby, you shouldn't feel like a slacker.

  • I wish that I could stop early, but that would cut into my already short leave. I'll be working until my water breaks.
  • I was going to stop at 38 weeks, but I was having consistent BH and being on my feet all day was killing me. And let's not even talk about the swelling. So I ended up out at 36 weeks.

Best idea ever. I'll use FMLA to finish out the school year and will go back in August. I don't think I'm a slacker, just doing what's best for me and my family. As should you.

  • I had every intention of working up until due date / labor started.   However, my position was terminated 2/28, so I have been home for almost 2 months.  I'm still as active as I was before.

If you need to leave work early I say do it - no sense in stressing yourself or LO out.

  • I'm currently a SAHM, but I was working when I was pregnant with my first two kids (I'm also a teacher).  With each one I had to stop early.  With my first child, my doctor put me on limited activity for a month because I kept having early contractions.  Then with my second son I had false labor about two weeks during my due date.  Since I worked about 45 minutes from home, my OB thought it would be a good idea to stop at that point.

  • I felt like a was reading a post I wrote myself just now!! Yes I can definitely relate.
It's my first year teaching high school, and my original plan was to work up until the last day. I just don't think that is going anymore.
I am exhausted at the end of everyday. I try to teach sitting down, but my feet are still super swollen and my back hurts so bad.
I think I've decided to stop teaching one week before my EDD. All I will miss is a few review days and then exams... But those would be easy for a sub to proctor.
We are almost there!!! Hang in there.

  • I'm working until I feel too uncomfortable to be there or I have a baby. I sit with my in a chair all day though so I think it's easier for me than for a lot of people. It would probably be different if I was standing all day.

I'd put a Movember mustache fail, but then
you'd all have to look at it until February.
  • I stopped a few weeks back, so maybe 6 weeks early. I went on sick leave so it won't interfere with my maternity leave.
  • Today was my last day. I'm due in two weeks. Teacher as well and next week is state testing. Didn't want to go into labor in the middle of that!!

  • I teach middle school and I am stopping two weeks before my due date. I have also had a rough couple if weeks and terrible edema and I just feel it is in everyone's best interest if I stop soon. I have been struggling and while I hate leaving, I know I am not able to give my full potential right now and that really bothers me.

  • I won't because I am not cutting into my 12 week FMLA leave, I'd rather spend that time with the baby. I can work from home a few days a week if I get really uncomfortable (I have great bosses) but I haven't worked from home yet.
  • Thanks for all of the input.  As a teacher, at least in my district, we just take our sick days for leave.  Luckily, I was able to get pregnant at the end of the year, so I just have to go back in August.  I'm talking to my doc Tuesday!  Thanks, ladies!

I teach middle school, aNd stopped at 34 weeks.  I didn't want to stop o soon, but I had serious swelling and was still throwing up a ton so my dr. Said enough! Looking back,I am soooo glad I stopped when I did!
  • If I make it that far, I may stop on May 17th (I'm due the 23rd).  It depends on how I feel.

  • I stopped last Friday, two weeks before my due date. Working on my feet all day, handling aggressive behaviors was getting difficult. I'm happy I decided to stop early.

  • I plan to stop at 38-39 weeks...but I've just reduced my hours by half. I am on my feet in a fast-paced environment (sometimes difficult to even take adequate pee breaks) and I have definitely noticed that I get dehydrated at work and often have intense BH contractions for the rest of the evening...so listen to your body!! No "working" mom is a slacker...(heck, no SAHM's are slackers - my mom worked her butt off as a SAHM.) I will go on leave sooner if the reduced hours are not enough to pace myself...only "pushing" it now because the money will make a difference.

I teach high school too and I am thinking I will be doing the same thing. I am behind most since my dd is June 1st, but he asked me this appointment how work has been going and if I think I would need to stop now.  I said no, not yet.  But I am thinking I might just take him up on his offer since I had my son at 36 weeks 0 days anyway I might go early.  I don't know.  I am just so super uncomfortable by the end of the day and I have BH all day long.

  • I'm going to be done after this week.  Just looked at my schedule and it's the best feeling to see only 4 more days planned!  I'd have loved to keep working but this pregnancy has been so much more difficult than anticipated.  Plus false labor the last 3 nights = no sleep and less efficient worker :(

  • I'm a teacher, and I'm starting half days at week 38 for two weeks. My due date is Monday 5/20 so my last day of work will be that Friday before. I agreed to that because my preferred sub can't start until 5/20. Most of my classes are in the morning, and my one afternoon class someone else in my department is going to cover for those two weeks. I hope it all works out!
