1st Trimester

Working out

What does everyone think about working out during the first trimester?? Running, walking, lifting weights? I feel like I read such conflicted things

Re: Working out

  • Are we talking like total normal regimen? I usually work out 45 times a week. I love it its such a stress release for me. Do you think it's safe that often?

  • If you were doing it before you were pregnant, you should be fine. But like PP said, you should check all activity with your doctor.
  • Like everyone said, continue what you were doing. Just watch your intensity and your body temperature. Don't get overheated and you shouldn't be gasping for breath. I've gotten myself pretty out of breath (it's a lot easier now!) a few times but I just stop and drink water until my heart rate comes down
  • I've still been working out 5 times per week.  For some reason I'm not nearly as sick in the morning so I can still get it in.  I feel comfortable continuing my weight classes as well as cardio kickboxing and running.  However I did cut out the high impact cardio classes, I know my heart rate just gets way too high and I'm literally drenched with sweat from head to toe after class.

  • I'm similar working 5 times per week, ran a tough mudder, doing weights and cardio. Drink water like its your job, but keep it up you're more likely to drop the baby weight easily, and ACOG states that it likely makes labor easier as well! I'm cheering for you sweat it out!
  • I would talk to my doctor, but as long as you're healthy and don't over exert yourself, I'm sure it's fine.  I was working out until I reached 6 weeks and the morning sickness and exhaustion set in.  I hope I can get back into it once I'm into my second tri.
