April 2013 Moms

Hey ...From the may 13' board...

First off I'd like to say congratulations to all the new mamas. I'm a first time mom and just would love to get insight on your last few weeks of pregnancy. How you felt, what you did to pass time anything really. Just curious to know. My doctor and lots of friends reccomended walking if any of you have done it do you think it helped to bring on labor or just made it easier being fit? Sorry to intrude lol

Re: Hey ...From the may 13' board...

  • I'm 2 weeks overdue, and I can tell you that I cry every single day. It's emotionally exhausting. My due date was april 13th. That being said, once April 1st hit, I kept my house clean everyday in such a way that if I had gone into labor that night, that it would be clean when we got home. So, I kept up on laundry, (even the smallest loads), took the garbage out everyday, vacuumed, dusted, organized the nursery. I baked a lot of cookies, and my husband cooked freezer meals (chilli, spaghetti, burritos). Made sure we had lots of basic necessities on hand such as shampoo, toilet paper, dish washer detergent so we didn't have to worry about it. I also sat on the exercise ball for hours at night....and just wait, wait and wait....

I was put on the induction list on Monday, but because of the results on the ultrasound and NST, baby is doing just fine, so they are in no rush to induce me. Plus, the L&D ward has been really busy all week, so it's just a matter of when a bed is open.

  • I am a week overdue = but I asked all my mommy friends the same thing a lot of them said waking.. I have been reading a lot... me and dh have been getting pretty competitive since I bought some uno cards!! I really enjoy cooking so every evening I open my kitchen blinds to let in some nice light and start dinner, its really calming for me, also I don't know if its a nesting thing, but I have been really enjoying doing dishes, something about the hot water and I use the pineapple scented dawn, its just so clean hahaha... just somethings I do to get my mind off the pregnancy and pregnancy pains while I wait for my man to get here.... inducing may 1st if he's not here before then!! Good luck!
  • Well hopefully your baby decides to make an arrival so you can be first priority instead of having to wait it out but it's great that your baby is still healthy in there.
  • Haha dishes have been a favorite of mine too. But those are good things to do hopefully when I become anxious it'll help me to get my mind off things thanks for the advice!
  • I know you are prob looking for ways to speed/ease labor, but really, there's not a lot you can do until baby is ready so try not to get your hopes pinned on a magic bullet.  Walking, bouncing on a ball, doing squats all may help move baby in position, but labor will come on its own.  I was a full week overdue with my first, so I know how the waiting sucks!

My advice is to relax as much as possible, go on dates with your SO, hang out with friends, do whatever things you really enjoy because it may be awhile before you feel up to doing some of those things once baby arrives!  Best of luck for the l&d you hope for!

oh yah, I can definitely attest to all of this!  You cannot put your body into labor. It's a bodily function just like you cannot make yourself ovulate, or get your period to start... it'll happen when it happens.

Not so much speed up, just pass time. I took up a hobby and I'm about fed up with it. I've pretty much exhausted my Netflix also lol but thanks I plan to do all those it's even harder to pass time because my fiance isn't around and I've been on bed rest for a while and being an active person bed rest is like death. I'm pretty content with going past my due date I take possibly delivering early with more than a pinch of salt. But thanks those are all great suggestions I haven't really thought about post pregnancy besides what I'm going to eat lol. So getting alone time with my Fiance is probably something I should get more of before baby is here

Nothing has helped me get the baby out I'm a week overdue. Including castor oil!

But I think being physically fit has helped me feel better. I still ride my bike and chase my son. I hope that will help during my induction tomorrow.

Castor oil!? Lol how did that go I heard its the worst.

  • Make a list of every.little.thing you may need post baby and make sure you have it. Some items I'd reccomend are included but not limited to; groceries (pet food if you have them, toilet paper, paper towels, body wash and perhaps most important, hand soap!!!) also if you're going to try and breast feed you most definetly should grab some nursing tanks.... Basically expect to be housebound for at least a week and making sure you don't have to have anyone run out for small things will be super helpful.

also- make freezer meals!!! After I had LO I could not even think about cooking. You will be so thankful if you're proactive now on this.

id reccomend one last nice date nigh with your husband. DH and I did this and now that LO is here and it's so much harder to do anything, I am so so so thankful we did this!

lastly I'd also reccomend walking. It's a great distraction, especially now that its getting nice out. Plus, it's nice to do some form of physical activity in advance of labor.  I walked a lot the week before I gave birth including two miles the day I went into labor. It may not be a guarantee to get things moving but I do believe it helps.

good luck to you, and enjoy these last few days of feeling little ones movements inside!

  • I did try to walk around the neighborhood every day when the weather was nice. On the day my water broke I had walked around a big baby convention and wore myself out. Take that info as you will, I have no idea if it caused my water to break. I tried to stay fairly active or "not completely sedentary" makes more sense lol. I wish you the best!

  • I walked non stop, I never really slowed down exercise wise, and it didn't do darn near anything to bring on labor, and I was induced at 40 wks and 6 days. The only thing walking helped me achieve was swollen feet and ankles. Lol
  • Lol thanks ladies for all your responses good luck and I'm hoping your enjoying your little nuggets
