Intro and questions
Hello ladies:
Here is my story. I'am 37 and Dh is 39 and we have been married for 12 yrs and I had my son Trent in 2001surprise pg before the wedding We decided ttc the end of 2011. Went off bc Jan 2012 but I didn't have a period for a couple of months.
We got pg in Aug. but it ended in a bo at 6wks. It was natural so there was no testing done. We were heartbroken but had hope because we got pg pretty easily. Jan of this yr we were thrilled to be pg again. Had an u/s at 6 wks 1 day and saw the baby with an hb of 150. Everything was right on track. Than at my next checkup at 11wks my world came crashing down. The doc couldn't hear the hb on the Doppler so decided to give me an ultrasound. After 3 mins it was all over, the baby had stopped growing at 8 or 9 weeks and was gone. I was in utter disbelieve and devasted! Why? what happened?
I choose to have a d/c and to have testing done on the tissue. The results came back and there was a deletion of the long arm of the 18th chromosome. My ques is my doc referred me to a Genetic counselor instead of an Re. I asked why not an Re and he said because they are more for women who have tttc and we don't we just can't keep them. I know a lot of u ladies that see an Re, has anyone been referred to a Gc? Thank u soo much for ur time and sorry to all of u for having to be here.

Hi I am new here too. My baby had Trisomy 16. We were referred to both a genetic counselor and a RE. I had my appointment with the genetic counselor and have my RE appointment next month.
Dx: PCOS and short luteal phase
18 cycles (3 with our RE) - Metformin + Clomid + HCG booster did the trick!
BFP #1 6/22/09 EDD: 3/2/10 DS born: 3/8/10

Hi, and welcome to the board. After my 3rd loss, my OB referred us to an RE and said he could also refer us to a genetic counselor, but he recommended we start with the RE, which we did. We had genetic testing done when we had the 3rd loss, and it turned out the baby had Trisomy 4. The RE told us that that particular Trisomy was not a recurring one, and was just a fluke. So, basically, the RE told us we had just been unlucky and he felt sure we could get pregnant again. We did get pregnant after that, but it was ectopic and I lost a tube. Since then, we haven't been able to get pregnant at all, and that was over a year ago. We never did go to see the genetic counselor as we felt comfortable (at least in our situation) with our RE.
Also, my OB and RE both said that infertility is not just couples who cannot get pregnant, it's also couples who cannot stay pregnant. I guess if they suspect that the couple's genetic history could be causing the issues, then a genetic counselor is helpful.

Me: 42. DH: 46.
1st Pregnancy: MC, 11/19/00.
2nd Pregnancy: DS born 04/10/06.
3rd Pregnancy: CP, 03/11.
4th Pregnancy: MMC, D&C 11/30/11, Genetic testing revealed Trisomy 4.
5th Pregnancy: Ectopic, 2 doses of Methotrexate unsuccessful, surgery 4/10/12, right tube removed.
Tried Letrozole January 2013-July 2013 (including 2 IUIs), all BFN. After 2 1/2 years of trying for child #2, decided to "give up" after July cycle, based on AMA.
August 16, 2013: BFP our first month of "not trying!" Still in shock. Beta #1 (14dpo): 183. Beta #2 (17dpo): 611. Ultrasound 8/30/13: baby measured 6 weeks, 1 day, heart rate of 118 bpm!
Ultrasound 9/13/13: 8 weeks, heart rate of 176!
Baby is due 4/26/14
