Babies: 6 - 9 Months

What Do You Think - Sleep Regression? Teething?

My normally-good sleeper has been wayyyyyy off the past 2 nights and I'm racking my brain for an answer.

He normally goes down between 7-8pm and is up for the day between 5-6am. He's been going down fine the past couple nights, but then wakes at 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and finally stays asleep from 1:00-6:30am.

When he wakes - he isn't hungry, because he isn't interested in the bottle. Our pediatrician said his top teeth are coming in, but I gave him Tylenol last night and he still woke every hour like clockwork. His nose is stuffy (which may also be the teething) so I gave him saline drops and elevated the top part of the mattress. It seems like as soon as you pick him up and cuddle, he goes right back to sleep. But his sleep seems super light the past 2 days. And he is waking crying - except for when he gets up for the day - then he's super happy.

My only other thought is - sleep regression? What do you ladies think?

  • My daughter has a difficult time sleeping too when she has a tooth coming in.  It eventually passes.  We just do Tylenol and pray it works but it doesn't always.  As far as the stuffy nose goes... we use a humidifier, saline drops and a Nos

  • Sounds like teething to me.  It sucks but it will pass when the teeth come in and then he should go back to sleeping well.  If he's stuffy, he's probably just having trouble breathing when you lay him down, and if he's not feeling well, he wants

  • Thanks for the advice ladies! He didn't do this with the bottom teeth, but I've heard the top are worse and take longer to come in? Daily mantra: this too shall pass :)

  • OMG, going through the EXACT same thing!!!!  our babies are around the same age, both have top two teeth coming in, both stuffy noses (mine is coming off a cold).  and he's up all night, exactly how you say....not tired just wants to be rocke

  • yeh it seemed like the bottom teeth came through w/ no problem and then the top 4 came in all at once! It was a nightmare!  But it doesn't last forever :)

  • The top teeth were awful for my oldest. I felt so bad for her.  She got three at once and it was accompanied by a runny nose.  Give tylenol and lots of snuggles.  You may need to do some sleep retraining after they come in but it should be

  • Do you suck out LO's nose after you give the saline drops? Just wondering bc maybe LO is waking up stuffed up and without sucking out snot the saline prob isn't helping. Also I would try Motrin or ibuprofen for pain. GL

    Edit: nosefrida is ama
  • K has been like this too and turns out he's growing 4 new teeth. He's been really cuddly and throws fits like crazy. He also has the stuffy nose and wakes up crying. Being a baby is hard.
