Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Vent about clothes after baby

I'm so frustrated with myself since it seems so hard to loose the last 20 lbs.  I lost all my baby weight so fast with my first son so I guess I was thinking it'll be the same this time around.  I know it takes time but I'm more frustrated because I struggle everyday to find something to wear!  My old clothes are too tight and I don't want to keep wearing my maternity clothes.  I really don't want to spend money to get a whole new wardrobe either.  It's just so depressing getting ready everyday.  I feel and look like a slob.  Ok, thanks for listening to my whining.

Re: Vent about clothes after baby

  • Ok, other than this was my first baby, your post is me exactly!  I was at a healthy weight pre-pregnancy but gained 40lbs. Oops! The first 20 were gone in the first week pp, but the second 20 are still there.  So depressing!  It makes it worse to hear about all the moms who lost the weight right away without even trying.

I don't want to be this flabby but with BFing I am SO hungry all the time!  I'm still in my maternity pants too because my tummy area is soooo poochy still.  For tops, I wear nursing tanks from Target with a v-neck cardigan sweater overtop.  It hides some of the tummy and gives me some shape.  Obviously I don't have much advice, but its always nice to hear you're not the only one.

  • Oh, i understand this completely. It's very frustrating. I have lost most of my baby weight BUT I still have a baby pouch. This makes getting dressed in the morning very difficult.

This! I bought one pair of jeans and they don't even fit right. I'm a hair stylist and sooo don't look it. I'm just so frumpy. I was fluffy pre preg, but I'm just fat now. Sigh. I am also starving all the time because of bfing.

  • With ds, the baby weight fell right off. This time, not so much. After the first 20lbs, things just stopped and I still had 20 to go. I finally joined Weight Watchers online and really love this program, and find it very easy to follow, especially with the extra points for BFing. Anyhow, I have been on it for 2 months now and am down 16lbs with only 4 more to go. I think I'll stay on it after a bit too to make sure I have maintenance down. I recommend it though if you are getting frustrated.

  • I feel ya! I actually only gained about 10lbs (thanks GD) and weigh less than I did pre-pregnancy, but you'd never know it looking at me. I can wear pre-pregnancy clothes but they don't fit the same....I have a pooch that isn't going away completely- of course, a good diet and exercise would probably help but I had to be so careful of what I ate for 8 months that I'm having a hard time reigning it in now.

This exactly! I am so uncomfortable in everything I wear!

  • Yes, this is my first baby and I went up a full cup in my breasts and a pant size. None of my old clothes fit me, it is slightly depressing. I did go ahead and bought a couple new clothes though so that I can feel better about myself while I lose more weight. One store had a sale going on and they had buy one get one free jeans. I feel a lot better and I will be getting my hair done tomorrow. I need to take care of myself too.

  • I'm below my prepregnancy weight and my clothes don't fit, so you aren't alone. I got through the winter with a combination of maternity and old clothes, but for summer I will need new clothes because Im a different shape than before and it's harder to hide in summer clothes. Even if you're losing the weight, get a couple basic pieces that fit now and look great-you'll feel a million times better.

  • Thanks ladies...I'm glad to hear I'm not alone.
  • I'm with you; gained 45, still 15 to go. It's yucky not fitting into any clothes. I caved and bought a new pair of jeans, which make me feel a little more human than permanent yoga pants. I'd had such high hopes that breastfeeding would melt off the weight, but looks like I'll just have to be more patient.

  • Ugh I am in the same boat. Gained 45, lost 25 right away, 12 to go. I think I have only lost so much because I'm a runner and have given up dairy - I used to cover everything in cheese. BFing and I crave sweets all the time! I can polish off a whole 10 oz bag of Pretzel M&Ms in a day. I think my body is hanging onto the rest of the weight for BFing.

I lost a ton of weight before pregnancy and saved all my old jeans. They didn't fit right even though I weighed less after baby than I did when I was fat. Slowly I am noticing they fit better but my tummy is definitely still flabby. Even if the legs of my jeans are loose I have a muffin top. I recommend American Eagle jeans. I know they're for tweens, but for some reason the waistband always stretches out really loose. I used to hate it but now those are the only jeans that actually fit me!

What do you BFing ladies do about your boobs? Mine look so saggy in a nursing cami, especially under a sweater. Nursing bras do the same thing. They were D for the first month but I think I'm a C cup now. I have one with underwire where they actually look decent but for some reason that bra is tricky to NIP with. They don't seem saggy when I'm not wearing anything, just after I put clothes on!

  • Feel your pain.  I gained 60 lbs and have lost 50 lbs.  I just bought a couple of items that fit while I was still fluffy.  You do feel better about yourself after that.  I've been told that the pooch is a mom's "trophy." So, I'm not expecting that to go away.  Maybe some day it will look a little nicer though.  I've been working out using Jillian Michaels Body Revolution and dieting using a free app that tracks calories.  But I'm not breastfeeding.  I don't recommend the diet for you breastfeeders since it could reduce your milk production.  But made a little light workout will help?  Put the baby in the stroller and get moving!
