On the Working Moms board there is a discussion about Mother's Day and people are posting what they wish they could do for the day. I can think of nothing. Isn't that sad? I cannot think of how I would spend a whole day if given the chance. It may have something to do with my insanely loooooooong hours these days because of Earth Day (my busy season) but I got nothin'.

If you got to choose how to spend a whole day, what would you do? How likely is it that this will be what your Mother's Day looks like?

I have never had a whole day!

Most likely we will go on a picnic/ hike. This year my MIL will be Hawaii so I don't have to go to their house that is best gift ever. I do ask for Mother's day off work, that is also special.

Right now if I had a whole day to myself and motivation I'd:

Paint and stain some furniture I've been meaning to get to

Post all my crap on Craigslist

Beat Candy Crush

Install my new outdoor light fixtures

Bubble bath

Go out to eat

GTet a massage

and finish the day by reading a good book.

I'd love a whole day to shop for clothes for myself. I desperately need new clothes, but I take forever to shop for myself and I have to be alone and not rushed. So, that basically never happens. It would be glorious to have hours and hours to myself, with ZERO calls from dh asking when I would be home, what was I planning for dinner, where is Wes' xyz, blah blah blah.

Then I'm pathetic too because I can't think of anything either. Last year I got to sleep in a little and Chris made me breakfast and then the rest of the day was business as usual. This year I guess that would be good too. We are too poor for gifts so theres that.

I am lame too. Right now I would kill for a full day at home, alone, watching movies, and napping. I've been working long hours too and really anything else just seems like it would take too much effort to really enjoy. Eta it is highly unlikely that this will happen!

I dunno this sounds pretty good to me!!!

I would love a day to myself where I could sleep in (because then I wouldn't need a nap), go for a long run, then a long soak in the bath. I'd grab some lunch with my friends and then a mani/pedi. And then.......???????

I've got nothing either. I wouldn't mind being able to lay in bed and read and then be able to get up and shower and have breakfast and coffee made for me. I wouldn't mind going to get a pedicure, and maybe do a little shopping. I think a day where no one requested anything of me would be great. I am keeping my expectations extremely low so I am not too disappointed when DH does nothing. He probably had to work anyway.

I decided I wanted to run a marathon for Mother's Day this year. Ha ha, but seriously the race I wanted to do just happened to fall on Mother's Day.

If it were warmer here, the only thing I would want for Mother's Day is to sit on the beach all by myself. I would lay out, read and listen to music.

I am cracking up at Penny wanting to beat CCS for Mother's Day.

I told dh I wanted to stay a night in a hotel close to a local winery so we could take a wine tasting class and do a tour. Then we were going to go shopping and then go to Dave and Buster's and drink and play games. So, that's not happening now. Just some flowers would nice. I don't want him to spend much money on me now.

A "do nothing" day sounds great to me! I'd love a day alone where I could sleep in, stay in the bed for a while watching TV, read some magazines, watch some more TV and nap.... I think the only way this will happen is if I take a sick day from work some time.

I am totally lame, too! Sadly, the first thing that popped into my brain was painting the dining room or getting done a few other projects around the house.

That said, I would kill for a day in my jammies, reading, watching movies and napping!

I would love to sleep in, go for a run, have brunch with my family and relax for the rest of the day. Maybe throw in a mani/pedi.

Reality?

DH is a night owl, so I'm the one who gets up in the AM with DD. DD won't sit through brunch, so I'll probably get 20ish minutes at Starbucks. I'm too cheap for the mani/pedi and would feel too guilty leaving DH to take care of DD for an hour and a half while I relaxed.

Basically, it will probably look like any other Sunday.

I would love to sleep in and have breakfast cooked for me. Then maybe go to the state park that's about 30 minutes from my house to do some hiking and play with DD. A massage and mani/pedi sound fabulous. Instead, I will be driving 16 hours that weekend for a graduation, so Mother's Day afternoon will be spent in the car.

I am torn between staying at home and working on my garden out front or going up north for the day for a great lunch and a little shopping with DS and DH. Those both would be an ideal Mother's Day for me..

I'm slowly building my ideal day.

1. Sleep in

2. Some alone time balanced with time with E

3. Time outside

4. My version of surf and turf - tri-tip and scallops on the grill but without me having to make the sides

5. Time to read the 4 back issues of magazines on my Kindle

I talked to DH about it and we've decided that he will get up with E and get her dressed (he usually does this) and then take her to visit his mom and let me stay in bed. Then I can read for a bit and take a bath. When they come home they will bring me breakfast and we'll eat together before her puts E down for her nap whic is usually from about 11:00 - about 1:00. Then we have the obligatory lunch at my moms with my SIL and everyone. After that we'll come home and hang out. I'll get some cuddle time with E. Then we'll put her down for the night and I can sit out on the deck or watch a movie while he grills for me. He told me he was planning to get me new beads for my bracelet, but I asked for a massager instead. I think that sounds pretty ideal.

With my SO's side of the family, they always do Mother's Day Tea. We live in WA and even his aunts in CA and TX come for it. They used to rent this Victorian house that hosted tea parties, but now that grandma cannot travel as far, they do it at IL's house. They have been doing it for years and everyone wears a big hat like they are watching the Kentucky derby....some hats are even handmade and silly. It's fun getting together with all of the ladies drinking tea and eating finger sandwiches and stuff. I plan on doing that this year if they are having it.

I have no idea what I want to do for myself though. I'm not a spa type person. Last year we took Gator to the beach for the first time on Mother's Day.....maybe we will keep that tradition. Who knows. SO sucks at planning anything and would waste half the day asking what I want to do and waiting for me to plan it.

If it were up to me I would just like a day without drama. My mother-in-law always manages to find a way to make us feel like crap because we always try to split the weekend between she and my mom.... Honestly, I wish I could just go have lunch with my mom and take a nap. Done.
