nanny injured your child. severence?

We haven't been 100% happy with our nanny since the beginning but things keep getting worse. Already she seems so inexperienced (although references said other wise), lacks common sense, can't cook or follow directions or communicate. Feel  my love yet? but it is mostly little instances. She also recently gave us an ultimatum letter demanding more money or refusing to do anything house related (she's home with one baby that sleeps 4 hours a day)

This week a second big thing occurred...she let our 14 month old fall off the changing table leaving her with a black eye. She  never contacted me or said anything until I asked. Handled totally wrong.

She is being fired tomorrow. Should she receive severance pay or just a peace out??

I either have to tell her myself tomorrow in person or my husband call her. I can't wimp out or get too emotional...

  • Pay her for what days she's worked and that's it. Why would you feel bad for firing her? She is your employee who lacks serious judgement.

  • I would have fired her on the spot. A bump or bruise is understandable at that age but to allow a child to fall off of the changing table! Accidents happen I know. But she showed she lacks attentiveness. If the child bumped into the coffee table or skinne

  • Pay her for "work" completed and peace out!  So sorry to hear of your situation - I hope you are able to find a better childcare situation...seems like there should be some sort of legal repercussions for her negligence...GL!

  • Pay her for time served and send her on her way. I think what makes the black eye even worse is that it happened in such a way that he should've been 100% supervised so it was clearly her negligence. To not call you is absolutely unacceptable. My son t

  • Ditto everyone, she's being fired with cause so pay her for the time worked and leave it at that.

It's one thing if she turned to grab a diaper and he fell off and she told you. It's another that she didn't inform you of the incident. That is a

  • Send her on her way. Her severance is that you are nice enough to just fire her, and not report her to the authorities!

I won't wimp out... but wanted to wait until I knew she would no longer have contact with the kids alone. I've been too pissed which is why I mentioned too emotional.. she coul
