Maxi Dress Question

Those of you who say you plan on wearing maxi dresses all summer did you buy maternity maxis or regular maxis?

I haven't found a ton of maternity maxis, so I'm just curious. The few maxis I have wouldn't work as maternity, so I'm wondering what kind everyone is buying.

Re: Maxi Dress Question

  • I plan on buying regular maxis in larger sizes. Ross has TONS of them!

  • Regular for sure.

  • I have three maxis that are pretty stretchy material so I think they will work for maternity.. Hoping I don't stretch them out too much so I can never wear them later haha
  • I have a few maxi dresses from
Anthropologie from before I got pregnant and I bought a Liz Lange one from target too. The Liz Lange seemed like a normal maxi to me. No extra panels or anything.
  • Right now regular, but as time goes on ill be getting some maternity ones.  I'm tall so I want the extra material in the mat ones to maintain the length.

This for me too! I've never had a maxi dress because they are all too short. The maternity one I bought at Target is going to be perfect!

I hope I learn to LOVE maxis -- right now I'm kind of "Eh" about them. I'm sure in the summer I will have days I want to cover my ankles and swollen feet, so it will come in handy!

Ross is a store that sells stuff you'll find in department stores but for way less. They have basically everything you can think of other than groceries! Lots of good deals.
  • I bought some reg but they already don't fit right because my boobs are huge! So def go for a bigger size!
  • I got a bunch of them in regular, most are jersey or a cotton blend so they're nice and stretchy for when I get really huge!

But don't go there unless you can handle literally digging through aisles of mismatched clothing for hours to not find a single thing, and then go back and do it again next week. Personally, I love how cheap it is obviously, but I can't handle the people, at least at the Ross's near me, the filth, and the disarray. It gives me a panic attack. They sell the clothing that department stores order too much of, or that a manufacturer can't sell any more of at department store prices, so they sell them to places like Ross for super cheap. But, in their inventory being super cheap, everything about the store is also super cheap. I honestly think they keep goodwill stores in nicer condition than they do Ross. It's a free for all in there.
  • They don't really have ROSS in New England. I'm originally from Cali and I miss ROSS, but Marshells is pretty much the same thing.

Ross is like TJ Maxx and Marshall's.

I have only bought one maternity maxi from Target, and I have a few others from before. I recently lost 30 lbs, so all my "fat girl clothes" will be repurposed for maternity clothes. I got a lot of those old maxis at Old Navy.

  • Thanks ladies! I'll try getting some bigger maxis!
  • I'm just buying regular maxis. I have several already and they are plenty roomy for a bigger belly.

  • Definitely regular ones. It makes me happy to be able to shop in regular stores for this one item! I found some awesome ones at marshall's  and at winners (I think that's a Canadian version of Marshalls).

  • I have a few regular ones and hope they will fit. I love Ross when it comes to dresses and will be going there soon. I did get one maternity dress from JC Penny's that was cute, but to be honest it was not too much diff from my regular ones.

  • I have one regular and one maternity from DS. I just bought another maternity but it is a more form fitting one so a regular wouldn't have worked.

  • Most of my maxis are flowy anyway so I will just wear those and probably buy a few more. Love my maxis!

  • I have a few non maternity maxis already and hoping those will work out.  I may buy a maternity one or two if I come across cute ones.  Bought some maternity jeans the other night and realizing that I really don't like them so I think I will be spending the summer in skirts and dresses!
  • I have a lot of maxi dresses .. And recently purchased a few .. 2 in Tj Maxx 29 2 in forever21 14.80

I think and I have never been pregnant before that the ones that will work for Maternity are knits stretchy materials or woven fabrics that are cut bigger.

Keep in mind that you will need to make sure boobs have a little room to grow and if need be , you might want some little bralettes , tanks , or little bandeaus to wear beneath these dresses
1 ones with the empire seam and that have enough gathers for the belly.

2 Maxi Dresses that have empire seam w that look like peasant skirts for the bottom portion

3 maxis that have more of a handkerchief hemline because the
Panel beneath the empire seam is cut like a rectangular or large square panel.
