Natural Birth

Anyone had a version done?

At 36 weeks baby girl is frank breech. She's been breech at every appointment except for 34 weeks, I felt her flip back a few days later. I've been doing spinning babies and plan to see a webster chiro early next week, but I also have a version scheduled for Thursday morning if she doesn't cooperate. I've done a lot of reading, just looking for any success (or lack thereof) stories.

FWIW, my OB will attempt breech deliveries, so that's not off the table. I'm willing to do whatever I can safely do to avoid a c-section, but I don't want to put the baby at serious risk, either. I've found a few helpful posts on the delivery topic by scrolling through the last few months on here, so your stories are much appreciated!

Re: Anyone had a version done?

  • My doctor successfully moved my transverse DS1 at 37 weeks. My dr hadn?t done a version in two years and my doula had never seen a successful one, so we were leery it would work. But, it did! It felt like forever while they were doing it but it apparently only was 1.5-3 minutes total. I was shocked when they told me how quick it was! I put my Bradley relaxation practice to use and did visualizations, deep breathing, and releasing all tension to get through the pain. (Yours may be longer, they have twice as far to push your baby around.)

After the version it took some time to get used to feeling LO in different places now. Every time he moved I was afraid he was turning back because he felt so different.  I was supposed to walk lots after the version so his head will get down in my pelvis and engage. I was very hyperactive for a few hours after b/c of the meds.

Before the version we tried several low-tech ways to get LO to flip: moxibustion, all of the spinningbabies.com tricks, doing hot and cold, music and light, going swimming and doing the flutterkick, doing handstands in the water, spending time in the inversion position, etc. We were planning on the Webster technique with a chiro if it didn't work. Also, if it didn't work, we planned to wait for labor to start rather than scheduling a c-section to give LO as much time as possible to turn (provided we were staying healthy) and let early contractions perhaps motivate him, etc.

  • Thanks for sharing the success story! And yes, I'm doing the moxa treatments and spinning babies positions and everything else, too. So far still frank breech, from what I can tell. I'm horrible at distinguishing body parts.

  • My midwife attempted to turn my son and was unfortunately unsuccessful. We tried all the other natural tricks, chiropractor, spinning babies, cold/hot compresses, homeopathic pulsatilla, etc. I scheduled a version in the hospital with an OB but my water broke two hours before my appointment! My midwife luckily knew a doctor that was experienced in breech deliveries and I was able to avoid a c-section. My son was frank breech as well. Good luck!! :)
