Natural Birth

Labor snacks

I am 36 w 3 d and we are starting to think about packing the hospital bag.  I am with a midwife practice and they said I can eat/drink whatever I want but I have to do so discreetly as the hospital doesn't really like it.  This also means I have to bring whatever I want (other than juice).

So, what should I bring?

So far we have peanuts, granola bars, m&ms, powerade, animal crackers.  I've definitely been craving more sweets and seem to gravitate toward sweets to help with the nausea/heartburn.

Thanks!

BTW--we are planning an unmedicated birth using Bradley techniques.  Fingers crossed I can do it, I'm super nervous and not 100% confident because my mom ended up with C-sections.

  • String cheese packs well, and maybe an orange or other fruit just to brighten things up?  Fruit leather might be a good packable option too, and it takes up virtually no space.

  • I laboured at home most of the time and ate: spring rolls, a pulled pork sandwich, and a DQ Blizzard.

By the time I went to the hospital, I just drank water. I highly recommend not rushing in to the hospital, as it leaves you free to eat, drink,

  • Gatorade and coconut water. I couldn't keep down solids.

  • I agree with the PP about not rushing to the hospital. Especially if you're doing Bradley Method, you wil have good prep to do bulk of laboring at home, and then snacks aren't much of an issue. We labored at home till it was clear things were intense ( a

  • I had fruit popsicles, honey sticks, Kashi fruit bars, and Gatorade.  I consumed them all during my labor.  GL!
  • Thanks for the responses.  We were told no red food coloring because if you do vomit it looks like blood.

I forgot about honey straws and applesauce.  I definitely think we need to pack something salty as well like pretzels or

I packed some Trader Joe's peanut butter cracker snacks, Cliff Bars, nuts, yogurt, gatorade, a coke in case I needed a sugar rush, dum dums, and some gold fish crackers.  In the end, I didn't want to eat at all during labor.  However, the snacks

  • The only thing I ate during (early) labor last time was a brownie. I was very thirsty for water but didn't want food at all. This time I plan to labor at home as long as possible, but I will be bringing snacks as well- cheese, Kind bars, crackers, juic

  • I thought I'd want to eat, but I puked up everything I ate.  I wouldn't overdo it on snacks.
  • Unless you are GBS+, Do not plan to hang out at the hospital and snack if you want a natural birth.  You need to labor outside of the hospital as long as possible.

  • I haven't had my GBS test.  I get that tomorow.

I'm also planning on laboring for as long as possible outside of the hospital.  Snacks can be used for this time as well, and, like I mentioned, for after the birth and for nursin
