3rd Trimester

GD monitor FAIL-

Ladies- I am new to having GD. This morning is my first morning that I am testing. Yesterday I went to a class on how to use the monitor, and what my numbers should be when I am fasting, and after every meal. While I was at the class yesterday we did a practice test to get our reading. I was 101...(wahoo!! in range)

So I decided to go ahead and test today- even though we could have started last night. Last night I had 2 slices of pizza, and a salad, and 3 hours later I ate an orange for my snack- and a little while later went to bed.

So, this morning I wake up, and decide to start my test, and I need to get my fasting number. My monitor reads 101. (out of range...I need to be between 60-90) so....I decide to test again, and it reads 107.

I could be wrong, but....if this monitor was accurate wouldn't I get the same read even if I tested more then once?

I didn't get the testing solution when I picked up my kit at the pharmacy. The lady who ran the diabetes class yesterday said it was supposed to come with the testing solution.

I am going to try and get the solution today- or call and get it sent to me.

I think I will continue to test today, but not write my numbers on my log, as it stores the reads in the monitor itself.

In the mean time, what should I do if my numbers keep reading different?

This is perfectly normal, and those numbers are actually surprisingly close.  All monitors have an error range

yes, that's totally normal. I've even tested the same blood with 2 different monitors at the same time and had

  • Like PP's said before, you will never get the exact same reading twice in a row, so don't bother retesting unless you get an error message. It's perfectly normal for two readings to be a few points offif they're within ten points that's generally conside

  • I have tested 3 different meters off the same blood droplet (a big one), as well as the same meter repeatedly. There is always a difference, and they are allowable.

What matters is the overall pattern. Like a PP said, your doc knows there is a ma
