Anyone change child care for 2yr old?

I am trying to decide if it would be better to keep ds in the home daycare he's been in since 6 months old or move into a center-based program that will ultimately transition into a pre-school. Ds is now 27 months old and while he does well there, I wonder if he would benefit from more structure. He does have one very good buddy there, sleeps well, and eats there (he is a terrible eater due to birth-related issues, so eating in a different environment is no guarantee for him). However, dd is 3.5 months old and set to start in a few weeks along with another infant, and I'm suddenly freaked out  that one woman can't best care for 2 infants, 3 2yr olds and several older kids too that come and go. I'm so nervous that either dd or ds will be missing out on needed attention. Again, ds has done well there, and this woman has 20 yrs experience and raised her own 3 boys who are all very successful, but I just still worry that she's only one person. However, I feel worried that a big change could be really tough for ds too, as a center is SO different. Any thoughts??

  • I don't normally post here often but thought I'd give your our story.  My DS had been in a home (not a day care as it was a SAHM and she just kept my DS and her kiddos) since I went back to work at 12 weeks.  1 month before his first birthday

  • I would not have an issue with 2 infants.  I would start to get a little nervous with how many other kids she has.  If you are happy I would stay put though.  We have always done centers since I need something that is open no matter what. &

  • We liked the home daycare DS was in as an infant. Although, at about 18 months we moved him to a DC center and are so glad we did. It really helped him with socialization and vocabulary.

But, it sounds like you're happy with where you're

  • DD was with a SAHM with 2 other kids.  I took her out a month after she turned 2 and kept her home with me for 6 months while I was on maternity leave.  I decided to put them both in daycare for financial reasons and I thought it would be nic

  • I would probably stay put until you give it a chance with your DD and the other infant. My DD was in an in home daycare from 0-2.5 and now has transitioned without any trouble to a preschool based program. Now if the woman has a hard time with the additio

  • Thanks everyone. We toured a center/school around here yesterday that has the best reviews, and it is pretty phenomenal. And a price tag to match. I know it owuld be quite a change for ds, and he might not eat and sleep as well there, but it is mo

  • DS has always been in a center.  I don't think the ratio will be much better going to a center.  However, it may be better for you DS to go to a more structured school type program before actually going to preschool.

  • Ds was at an in-home from 6 months to  2 1/2 when the provider had to move away. We loved the in-home, it was amazing. We moved him to a preschool/center thinking it was a good time for that.

    The transition was AWFUL.

  • If your infant is going to start there soon, I would take this opportunity to move your toddler up to a preschool. I agree that's a lot of kids for one person, especially with small infants who need a lot of attention. Honestly, I think she shouldn't have

  • Yes, we made the transition from an in-home daycare (2 adults, 6 children, all 3 and younger) to a center when DS was 2y1m.

    We made the transition because:
