DS Is 16 weeks this week. I am a first time Mom, and try to do everything by the books. However, both my Mom and my husband are pressuring me to give DS some cereal in a bottle of breastmilk, at least at nighttime (he just never seems very satisfied). I would like to try it, just to see if it makes him more content, but am scared because of all the reasons not to give it to those under 6 months that I've read... I just know that things used to be so different and people gave cereal VERY young, but now there are just so many restrictions. What is your take??

I actually tried to give LO (19 weeks) some cereal last night with BM and he loved sucking on the spoon but didn't really care about the cereal itself. I also noticed that it is too think for a medium flow nipple so if you do give him some out of a bottle

There's debate about cereal at 4 months vs 6. You wouldn't be completely out of line to try cereal at 4 months but definitely don't do it in the bottle (it's a choking hazard) and don't do it because you hope he'll be "satisfied" or sleep better. &n

Ditto what Elmo said. Please don't put cereal in his bottle, that's a choking hazard. If he seems hungry increase his bm or formula.

Don't do it. I think its silly to skip their favorite nursing session of the day to give them a bottle. I just say no, she doesn't get bottles when I'm with her.

My LO's pediatrician recommended starting cereal at 4 months because breastmilk dosn't contain enough iron. I have never heard of that before, but I plan on starting it when I feel she is ready. I will be using the small spoons to get her used to

Try nursing hourly for the two hours leading to bedtime. Also your LO could be going through a growth spurt. Our bodies are designed to feed our babies so the more he nurses the more milk you will make. If he's still eating at night that's normal. Breaatf
