NBR: Baptism gift?

A friend's daughter will be baptized on Saturday. What do people normally give for a baptism? Do you usually give a gift? It seems like I should get her something, but all I can think of is maybe a blanket, and she already has too many of those. Thanks!

Re: NBR: Baptism gift?

  • I usually give a couple of books for baby.

  • We usually just give a check or savings bond.

  • For DS, we didn't get gifts from everyone. What we did get were religious books for children, money from some, picture frames or engraved silver items, as well as crosses and other religious themed gifts. I would check out your local Christian bookstore o
  • I do an outfit, you can always give something religious. Or do a things remembered thing or money really that's all I have heard.
  • I recently went to one and gave a cute little dress and tights from the Gap for their little girl.  Two of our friends bought religious items and another friend and I figured most people would so we went with other things.

  • For DD, we received cash/checks, a number of wall hangings, and books. DH got her a book called "On Your Baptism" which is full of verses and places to write down things about the baptism, like who came, who presided, wishes from the mom and dad for th

  • We just went to one on Sunday and I gave a little board book of Bible stories with a cute Snuggamonkey stuffed animal. I try to do half religious and half fun.

  • I usually buy a piggy bank or bank of some kind.  I put some change in it and then tape some cash over the coin slot.

I'd put a Movember mustache fail, but then
you'd all have to look at it until February.
  • I usually do a Baptism picture frame. I know Kohls sells them.

  • I have a Batism in a few months and wondered the same thing.  I would do a savings bond but banks don't sell them anymore and they don't have an online account set up for him yet.  I like the piggy bank idea though.

  • In our circle everyone tends to do a card with cash but the Greek baptisms are almost weddings so they are pretty formal

I think a really nice picture frame would be appropriate, skip the cheesy baptism ones.

  • I would give money. You didn't say if it is a baby Baptism or child. Either way I still give money for a baby - you could ask the mom if she has a piggy bank if not give that with money in it. For an child I would give a book and money.

My cousin has a baptism coming up this weekend. We got her a "Heaven is For Real" book, a Toddler Bible songs cd (she's almost 3), and a Precious Moments figurine from Hallmark.

  • Thank you for all of your suggestions! They were all way better than a blanket. I went to the Family Christian store today (as well as Hallmark and Kohl's with no luck), and I ended up getting a really cute piggy bank with flowers and one of the psalms wr
