Is this normal? (sickness related)

DD has had these weird bouts of vomiting and diarrhea for the past few days. What's odd about it is that she will throw up a few times and then be normal for the entire day - eating, drinking, sleeping as if she's better. Then, the next day she'll throw up again, or have diarrhea. This has been going on for four days.

I took her to the Dr. yesterday, and she said it's a stomach flu, which I know is going around. It just seems to be different than your typical flu, where they throw up a lot and then slowly get better. This is strange b/c it's so intermittent. Her actions are intermittent as well - going from being clingy and lethargic (which is not like her at all) to be acting perfectly normal.

Has anyone experienced this?

Re: Is this normal? (sickness related)

  • No idea if it's normal, but yes I'm going through something vaguely similar right now with DD.

Saturday she had mild diarrhea. Sunday she was fine, except for refusing dinner (very odd behavior for her - I think she's refused 3 meals ever). Yest

  • We've been going through this too and I caught it as well. It comes and goes. Everyone felt better for a short time and then it hit again, for about five days. Pedi said to wait it out. I hope your lo feels better soon:)

  • I have a friend who daughter did the same thing and it ended up being food allergies. Could she be coming in contact with something she is allergic to?
  • When my daughter had the stomach flu a few months ago, this is exactly what happened.  It took about two weeks for it to fully clear up.
