red raspberry leaf tea?

If I am to have a c section because getting tubal litigation should I drink red raspberry leaf tea or take the pill form to help with uterine healing?  It doesn't cause contractions just strengthens uterus.  What are your thoughts on this.

  • I bought mine at the grocery store in the health section, was only $5.  So are you only having a c-section because tubes getting tied?  Just curious because I'm getting tubes tied too, but will deliver naturally.  My dr will to laproscipically (sp) after delivery while my uterus is still high, small incission near my belly button.

  • It was my understanding that you should NOT drink RRL if you are having a c-section.  My midwife was supportive of me starting it at 20 weeks, but warned that she'd have me stop if I still had placenta previa at 30 weeks (it was gone by 24 weeks so I have the go-ahead to keep drinking it).  I was not told why you shouldn't drink RRL if you're having a c-section, just that my midwife does not want you to.  I'd ask your caregiver what their thoughts are.

  • I've been drinking Earth Mama Angel Baby Organic Third Trimester tea and I really like it.  I got it at diapers.com but I'm sure you could find it other places.
  • We hired a doula late, at 30 weeks...and she recommended I start drinking it right away. She says it will tone my uterus aiding in a better delivery. I bought it at Whole Foods.

I wouldn't recommend using this for pregnancy benefits like uterine toning, quick labor, etc.

Raspberry Leaf is the very last ingredient, so there will be only a tiny amount in each teabag. It won't be enough to be of any use. This tea is mostly hibiscus and rosehips.

To get the benefit of RRL tea, you'd need to do a very strong brew of either just RRL or a blend that was mostly RRL and contained other helpful herbs like nettles, alfalfa, etc.
