Babies: 3 - 6 Months

If your baby has asthma or respiratory issues...HELP!!

...AND is on a steroid inhaler...I have a question.

Do kids EVER get used to that thing?? My 4.5 month old has some pretty nasty respiratory issues ever since he had a bad bout with RSV at 12 days old. But the steroid inhaler they gave us to make his lungs stronger make him SO restless it's like he's on crack. Usually from 2am - 6am every day he has to sleep in my arms or at least beside me in bed because if he's not, his poor little legs are running marathons and his arms keep attacking his face. He's still half swaddled, so it's not as bad as it could be, but COME ON!!

I am going crazy here with no sleep, and it's only been a week that he's been on it. Does this last forever? What do you do?? Is there any way I can help him calm down by the TIMES I give him the inhaler (now it's once in the morning and once at night before bed).

HELP! TIA!

  • No advice... But sleep is going to be important for your LO and you too to keep you both healthy. Have you put a call in to pedi for any advice regarding administration times and this side effect of the mess?

  • Is there any way you could start pushing the last dose back into early afternoon? I would just ask your pedi over the phone. As an adult with asthma, I would recommend not taking it in the evening.
