Pregnant after a Loss

First Ultrasound

I am 5 weeks 6  days from my LMP and today I had my first ultrasound. They saw a gestational sac in the uterus, a yolk sac in the gestational sac, but no fetal pole or heartbeat. No one seems concerned and they wanted me back in 1-2 weeks so, May 5 (a Sunday) I am scheduled.

This is overall good news but I think it left a bad taste in my mouth because the ultrasound tech was super nice, but then we waited for 45 minutes for my appt with the midwife only to have a medical assistant come out and tell me that since it's so early, she didn't need to see me but would if I had any questions. I was kind of blindsided and just left. The whole thing I planned on walking away with today was reassurance from a medical professional that things were normal. I cried on our way out and called and left a message asking them to call because I was really upset. She did call and was really nice and said everything was great for where I am, measuring 5w5d (which makes sense since I have a longer cycle). But it's like, there's always this "but" in the back of everyone's mouth at each moment.

Am I crazy? I've had one miscarriage and they're treating it like I should be even more negative than I already am about it. Is this good for 5w5d? How do I convince myself that I'm "staying pregnant" until this next ultrasound? Longest 12 days ever I'm sure. Sorry for the rant.

  • It's probably just too early to see the heartbeat, I'm sure it's fine! I skipped this early ultrasound for that exact reason.
